There are a lot of much shorter runways around the world which handle regular 737's and A320's, but none that I can think take 757's regularly. My local airport NZWB handles the airforce 752 quite often, and it's only 4,600ft long with only 3,400ft to stop after touchdown!
This is a great shot. 4r, 22l and 31c/13c are the best places to spot there because Midway has the barrier wall alomst around the whole field with very few opennings to view the field...
Very nice pic for watching the city at the back
Great view of the Chicago skyline.
It will be hard to go around!
Do tell!! It can be somewhat of a chore to bring a single-engine Piper or Cessna down on a runway of this length. Just think how much more of a chore it is to bring an airliner down on this short of a runway. This shot illustrates that point very well, especially since you can make out the black signs with the white numbers clearly! Those signs indicate how much runway remains (in thousands of feet)! Nice shot Nick!
"Not sure I know of a 200k lb. airplane that lands at MDW." There certainly are. This was taken from the jumpseat of a Northwest A-320 and there are B-757-200s and -300s flying into MDW. It is a "get this thing on and stopped" kind of landing every time.
"Not sure I know of a 200k lb. airplane that lands at MDW." Take a look at the landing weights of NW752s and ATA753s. Those are HEAVY jets that routinely service midway. Having jumpseated in on a NW757, it was amazing. Autobrakes 2!
Chicago and its famous skyline straight ahead!!!very nice shot nick!!!but the rwy seems very dirty(rubber marks)...I love this airport and the way the 2 rwys are crossing into a quare airport...

I put myself in the pilot's seat and experience the rush as the plane hits the runway at high speed.
Brilliant! WOOP WOOP! | |
Great photo. For many, landing a Cessna on this runway can be difficult, but putting down a 737 or even a 757 on this thing is nothing short of amazing! There is no such thing as an overpaid pilot.
