I was present at idl when picture was taken and had the opportunity to visit inside the TU-I14. Because Pan Am did not have a high enough aerstand to get into this aircraft, a six foot ladder was needed on topof the aerstand.

A visitor from France posted Wed March 21, 2012:
Mr. K went twice to the US. In September 1959 by plane and in October 1960 to address the UN and pound his shoe. That time he came by boat

A visitor from Finland posted Sat August 13, 2011:
Mr. K = Nikita Khrushchev

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri June 10, 2011:
Beautiful plane. Who is mr K?
You mean mr C maybe?

A visitor from United States posted Sun May 29, 2011:
Would love to have a chance to see this beauty in the "metal". If they ever do restore one to flying shape and fly it around, it would be great to see it at JFK again!

A visitor from - posted Thu February 24, 2011:
I'm guessing that Mr. K needed ear plugs for that flight.

A visitor from United States posted Wed November 24, 2010:
The commercial Bear is just as awesome as it's military sibling.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon July 19, 2010:
This aircraft was also featured in a recent "Classic Airliners" calendar and it was noted (and shown) that the airport did not have steps high enough to reach the aircraft doors. Look closely at your picture and you can see that this is indeed the case. The airport had to improvise with extra step ladders in order that the diplomats could disembark!

A visitor from - posted Sun June 20, 2010:
This state of art propeller is terrific, wow!

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Thu June 17, 2010:
Awesome bird. Unfortunately the glass noses are almost gone. The Connie and the Tu-114 are in my opinion the most beautiful airliners ever made.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Mon April 19, 2010:
Now and then the seniors give us presents like these, thnx! The stairs available at JFK were too small for this bird. The russians loved it.

A visitor from Brazil posted Mon April 19, 2010:
Historic photo ! This aircraft could achieve cruising speeds similar to early generation jets. Sits very high on the ground !

A visitor from Russian Federation posted Mon April 19, 2010:
Excellent photo! Great plane! At that time, the flagship of Aeroflot!

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sun November 8, 2009:
That's a freakin tall nose wheel strut!
It went directly from Moscow to New York. That's pretty good!

A visitor from - posted Sat September 29, 2007:
This is a clear and rather all-encompassing of what was one of the world's most significant airliners. Since information regarding this aircraft is scant
such a photo is most significant.

A visitor from Korea, Republic Of posted Wed April 19, 2006:
Mr. Lawrence, your photos are a treasure...thanks so much for sharing them! This plane must have been something to ride on...

A visitor from United States posted Sat January 14, 2006:
The photo is a piece of history. the fastest propeller driven aircraft ever in the early aeroflot colors. this exact aircraft exists today, i wish russia would restore and fly her for all to enjoy.
