Well friends, this picture is like comparing Madonna and Lady Gaga.
One is new, promising and profitable...
The other is History, Legacy and Supremacy.
Anyway, both are Fantastic!

A visitor from - posted Tue January 7, 2014:
Well, considering they are both big toys, I would simply say the A380 is a teddybear - round and fluffy - while the 747 is a Barbie doll - elegant from any angle but less friendly.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Thu July 18, 2013:
The 747 is Miss World of the Skies wins the beauty contest anyday. Timeless design and right lines did the trick, not age of concept. Will look better forever as a result. Think of the 1979 W126 Mercedes-Benz S-Class for an automotive analogue example. Same great story.

747 without hesitation. The 380 is an engineering marvel to be sure but a face only a mother could love.

Sentiment! No time to look back the A380 is far superior

No doubt the A380 is the winner.Try one if you dont believe it.Sorry boeing you are to late with a real VLA

I see the greatest airliner ever built, and the ugliest airliner ever built. I'm sure you can guess which is which.

Great photo, two giants in one frame! No argument, the lines of the classic 747 are far better, if you ask me the airbus design is pretty ugly

I prefer the a380's cuz of the quietness and the new cabins

A visitor from Finland posted Mon December 5, 2011:
The 747 is a classic, of course. But the 380 is modern efficiency in a package. Just look at the wing on the 380 in the picture, from the side. Wow!

A visitor from United States posted Tue November 22, 2011:
It's a tie for me. The A380 is a marvel of modern airliner technology (not to mention the biggest in the sky), but the 747 is such a classic, timeless airliner. What can I say, I love 'em both!

A visitor from Singapore posted Sat November 19, 2011:
Interesting shot! Size isn't everything here...the 744 is more elegant, graceful and downright majestic. The 388 is of course huge and perhaps majestic, but stubby and not aesthetically a match for the 744. If the 388 was a bit longer and had a better designed nose, perhaps the contest would be closer! IMHO!

A visitor from United States posted Sat November 19, 2011:
Both the Boeing 747-400 and the Airbus A380 are fantastic marvels of aerospace technology. Everybody has their own opinion on who shall be the Queen, King, Emperor, etc etc etc...of the Skies
Old School: B747 400
New School: A380
Combining both schools: B747 800

Airbus is great...but my preference is the Immortal Boeing 747.

On another thought, it would be awesome whenever I get the chance to fly these Royal Birds.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Sun September 25, 2011:

I have to say I like the 747 better too..better lines. A380 is an impressive aircraft don't get me wrong. Just looks stubby to me.

A visitor from United Arab Emirates posted Sun August 21, 2011:
Great Photo Sam,
With regards to whats better looking, no doubt the 747 looks better than the A380, but I think thats mainly down to the cockpit placement. Had the cockpit been at the upper deck and not the middle I think it would not have been as one sided.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Sat August 20, 2011:

I definately prefer the Boeing 747-400! There is no need for the airbus a380, there is no need for an aircraft that big-It is ugly and far too large, as demonstrated when the aircraft has collided with buildings and other aircraft several times because of its size! The Boeing 747 is the real queen of the Skies, but my favourite aircraft will always be the most successful one.....The Boeing 737!

A visitor from posted Sun July 10, 2011:

But Concorde is still the only legitimate queen of the skies, compared to these fat subsonic planes. 5*

Which one do I prefer? The 744, without a shadow of doubt. The only way anyone's going to get me to fly on an A380 is if the route I need to fly becomes A380-only.

The Jumbo Jet v the Whale Jet ... one is the most beautiful and elegant subsonic airliner ever built, the other is the ugliest airliner ever built.

Queen of the skies?! If there ever was such a thing then it was called Concorde. No other aircraft comes even near its beauty and elegance. The A380 is no super model, but at least doesn't have that unaesthetic hump you get with the B747.

The Airbus is: more efficient, quieter, smoother, more technologically advanced, more versatile, and newer.
The Boeing is: much better looking.

I have never, ever liked the looks of the 747....from being that hump back, it looks fine, but...forward? No. Never. The A-380 to me...well its nose could have been designed more pleasing, but...to me, it looks...right, as a whole. I have never...and will never, be a Boeing fan.

A visitor from United States posted Tue April 13, 2010:
I will admit, the A380 is kind of cool with its two full levels, but it is ugly. The 747 is so sleek and beautiful; and the 747-8 is only getting sexier. May the Queen of the Skies rule forever.

That said, aviation is all about pushing the boundaries of human achievement, and Airbus must be applauded for taking the risk, just as Boeing did 40 years ago. The 747 is a legend in its own right, and the A380 is the ultimate tribute to its legacy. Long live VLAs!

I undoubtedly prefer the 747, as she has a lot more presence than the A380 as her design makes this to be. Her wing structure is very important to her image as it give the feel of a very laid back style, but the fact that they control such a mass and toll of passengers reinvents the idea of strength. Yet another way that this photo has so much effect is that this seems that there is a hostile atmosphere around the two (As obviously there is in matter of control of the skies). But there again... 747 Wins any day! :)

That high tail and gorgeous flexing wings which the 747 doesn't even come close to, does it for me, besides the bugling forehead, i think the a380 is a beautiful plane, the 747's beauty is overrated for me, i never could find anything so breathtaking about it, i consider the 777(all models) and a330-300,a340-600 a lot more beautiful than the 747. that squashed cheek frontal view of the 747 as seen in the a.net logo does nothing for me. and no offense, but to say i love planes, thats why i love boeing is very daft coming from the german.

Boeing Company vs Aiurbus Industry
B747 vs A380
Still B747 is more elegant, but A380 is more powerfull.
In this photo you can see the evolution of years in aviation.

A visitor from Singapore posted Sun May 11, 2008:
Another unique pic from Sam. Personally for me, the 747 has more elegant lines and is a timeless classic. Indeed, the Bus has Big shoes to fill since the Boeing has been around since 1968, a Very historical and 'battle hardened/proven queen of the skies'.

A visitor from Spain posted Wed May 7, 2008:
Good day. I think the 747 seems to be bigger than the 380 because 747 has got less space between the passenger windows. Also I think the visual effect of the 747 head is very important. The only true in this photo is that the design of one of the aircrafts was made in the early 60's, and the other one is a XXI century aircraft.

Thanks for this great shot.

A visitor from - posted Tue May 6, 2008:

A380 may not be the prettiest aircraft out there, but as an airline enthusiast I actually prefer it to 747. I've flown 100+ times on a 747, and one experience on A380 managed to beat them all... plus, windows are bigger ;)

A visitor from Canada posted Sun December 16, 2007:
I love the way you can compare the to "jumbo jets" in this shot. I still would go with the Boeing 747 even know it's in older style and the A380 is brand new and all i would go for the Boeing 747. I can hardly wait till we get a photo of to the Boeing 747-8 and the A380 and to compare them then!
amazing shot!

A visitor from Italy posted Fri December 7, 2007:
The question is only one: do we really need an aircraft
able to carry 800 passengers? A380 might be unbeatable for cargo, but the future, according to me, is represented by Boeing with its 787, in terms of efficiency. And we all have to remember the age of 747. However, they are two wonderful aircrafts: fly them anyway.....

A visitor from Canada posted Thu December 6, 2007:
I would go for the Boeing 747 any time. The Airbus A380 just looks UGLY!

A visitor from Singapore posted Wed December 5, 2007:
Nice shot! :D i like big stuffs so well A380 for me .. but airbus really gotta stretch the body abit to make it more proportioned n that nose of the A380 too ><

A visitor from United States posted Sat December 1, 2007:
This picture shows the difference in size quite accurately. The 380 is the most amazing airliner in the world period. And i don't care for those boeing dudes that say that this plane is to big and that there's no market for it. The 747 was a great plane, now it's airbus turn to show off.

A visitor from Canada posted Mon November 26, 2007:
Nice shot but the A380 is just a big Walmart. The 747 is still the classiest aircraft.

A visitor from United States posted Mon November 26, 2007:
The 747 is the best. I like the A380, too because of the technology it was, but it doesn't have a beautiful design. Aside from that, the new Boeing 747-8 WILL be the longest plane, 1 meter longer than the A340. So, the 747 won't go out of service if you think it is.

I clearly choose the 747 because of the design.
I like the 380s technology, but not the design. For me it's about style, not size.

A visitor from Germany posted Mon November 26, 2007:
The B747 has a more characteristic face and is more slim. Her look is known since decades and branded into the minds.
The A380 looks like an A318 - just bigger - nothing special on it beside here size.
But the B747 ist not really beautiful - just elegant with a "curious" head - more interesting.

A visitor from Mauritius posted Mon November 26, 2007:

The A380 is catched well, but the B747 should be a little bit turned to the left so one have a much better comparison of the size of the fuselage and the different diameter of the engines

A visitor from France posted Sun November 25, 2007:

A visitor from Germany posted Sun November 25, 2007:
OK, this perspective works for the 747. Sure, the A380 is not an athletic aircraft. It shows from this angle. To answer your question, Sam: of course the A380! Because it is a modern airliner, the cabin is the calmest of all. And it is built (partly) in my hometown Hamburg. :-)

A visitor from Canada posted Sat November 24, 2007:

A visitor from Germany posted Sat November 24, 2007:
The 747 has proven to be a fantastic aircraft for almost 40 years. But even with a 747-800 version, the A380 will be the future due to economical, environmental and comfort predominance.

Great shot of the 2 undisputed commercial aviation giants. Technologically, there's no competition and none of us should expect them to be so - 1 was born almost 20 yrs before the other and didn't hv the benefits of 20 yrs worth of advancement! Style-wise, of course, it's upto your personal taste and nostalgia. For the record, I like both.

Looks like people still prefer the A380. Amazing photo, and probably the only one in Airliners.net that has the 2 rival jumbos in one photo? Avionics point of view, A380 is the clear winner. Looks wise- the sharp nosed B747. So why not "marry" the two in a not so unceremonious way? The Queen of the Sky waiting for the King to pass by!
