I present to you , India's highest airfield where civilian aircraft land! Welcome to Leh, capital of the Ladakh region in Northern India. Set amongst the Himalayas, at 11,500 feet MSL, there is only one entry and exit route into this Airport. Planes have to make a steep left bank between two high mountains and approach the runway. The runway has no lights and hence, no night time landing is possible. An interesting fact is, that on a full moon night, the army operates a few flights, because the air is so clean the moon lights up the whole area as if it were daylight! Thanks Phil from EDDL Photography for the edit.

Difficult it is for aircrafts to land here. Only specially trained and qualified Pilots are allowed to fly Leh

Very unusual to have an airport on top of a mountain. I should try flying into this airport on my Flight Simulator sometime and see what it's like.
