The windows with the red accents around them are atually emergency exits, I believe.

An aircraft for the happy few. London City Airport is a far better cry than LHR, especially since the lookout facilities are gone.

Excellent photo of an aircraft about to start an ambitious new project.
It is NOT an Elite. It does not have extra fuel tanks over and above the normal wing tanks, but it can still make JFK-SNN non-stop. Cannot make LCY-JFK direct as it would be too heavy taking off from LCY.
It has CFM56 engines as the IAE used on most of the BA aircraft is not an option on the A318.
This is aimed at the business customer. Just 32 Club Plus seats, with internet access available.
I think it will be very popular, and it is far bigger than most business jets that fly across the Atlantic.
Landing at LCY should be interesting though. Largest aircraft certified to land there with its steep approach and short, narrow runway.
Good luck to all involved.

Such a small plane for a trans-atlantic route, but with the stop in Shannon, it would have to make it.

Awesome plane but, the tail looks to big

A visitor from Germany posted Sat August 22, 2009:
I think they have to stop in SNN for fueling because a heavy A318 isn't able to start on the short runway in London City Airport

A visitor from United States posted Thu August 20, 2009:
The flight will stop in Shannon, Ireland to clear US Immigration so that the passengers don't have to when they arrive at JFK Airport. The plane will also be refueled at SNN. Anyways, I think this photo is great!

A visitor from United States posted Thu August 20, 2009:
They aren't flying nonstop from London City to JFK! its London City via SNN to JFK on the forward flight
Return flight is JFK to London City nonstop

NOTE BA is wearing german flag on tail

From a Concorde to an A318, who would have thought? I like the fact that such a small Airbus can make it over the pond.

A visitor from Spain posted Thu August 20, 2009:
I think an A318 can do London City-NY without problem.
Only fwd hold, wich means that aft hold space can be used for fuel, and in all business configuration, the payload won't be very heavy...
Can't tell about the red lined windows, but the emergency exit calls my attention, why is not highlighted?
Ah,and CFM56 engines,not the usual BA configuration...

The red marks show rescue workers where it is safe to cut through the fuselage in the event of an accident.

A visitor from - posted Thu August 20, 2009:
The a318 can travel farther because it has teh same size wing as a320 but is much more efficient with due to light weight. i would hate to be stuck on such a teeny weeny plane for such a long trip. even with all first class.
making 1 trip with a 747 has to be more efficient than 20 on the a318 to get the same amount of passengers across.

A visitor from Spain posted Thu August 20, 2009:
London - JFK with a A318???

A visitor from United States posted Thu August 20, 2009:
What are those windows with the red dotted lines around them?

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Thu August 20, 2009:
Im a bit disappointed that BA have reverted to the lower colour scheme on the tail. Will they repaint like they did on the A319?
