A visitor from United States posted Mon November 2, 2009: It does say Chubu Centrair; seems to a Japanese thing to identify their airports from above, maybe a holdover from the past? Also, it is indeed a man-made island, as space in Japan is very limited.

A visitor from Canada posted Mon November 2, 2009: Great picture of Japan's 2nd 'man-made island airport' with the first being Kansai and the third one Kobe. The Japanese seem to have a 'make work' programme that MUST always see them spend their budget or the following year their budget will be reduced. This I know from living in Japan and seeing first hand. I guess "use it or lose it" has great rewards like this gem in Japan.
