Maybe I'm naive, but I think it could have been possible to have as large of aircraft as the A380 if Tempelhof added some jetbridges to its terminals. Maybe even the 787 Dreamliner could bring some modern 'vibes' to the historic airport lol :)

The city made a huge mistake closing this airfield (IMHO). It's the perfect runway for STOL aircraft, and so close to downtown. Historically, probably the best and most useful thing to survive the former regime is TEMPELHOF.

Happy memories, I was fortunate to travel through this fantastic airport a few weeks before it closed. For a passenger it was perfect, historic and from leaving the aircraft (under cover of course) to the centre of the city in 20 minutes by public transport - modern planners take note! I guess having residential areas about 50m from the end of the runway causes difficulties these days. Thanks for the reminder Stephan.

It's the most beautiful airport we've got in Germany. It will be reopend some day for sure!
