Remark Photographer
OV-103 (cn OV-103) "Discovery" in Orbiter Processing Facility # 1. Her engines have been removed post flight for refurbishment like normal. Her payload bay is seen in the open position behind the plastic shield. The Orbiter Boom Sensor System (OBSS), a boom containing instruments to inspect the exterior of the orbiter for damage to the thermal protection system can be seen and so can the airlock. Her body flap (which protect the engines from the SRBs and helps in up and down motion, is covered by paper for engine removal.

Discovery's Burden : Carrying America's Space Program Forward. by member eksath
Orbiter 103 has been the beast of burden with the highest # of missions (33) in Space. Discovery, the 3rd orbiter to become operational at Kennedy Space Center, was named after one of 2 ships that were used by the British explorer James Cook in the 1770s.
