Aircraft Taken at More: Emirates SkyCargo (Atlas Air) More: Boeing 747-47UF/SCD More: Amsterdam - Schiphol (AMS / EHAM) More: Netherlands, May 28, 2004 Remark Photographer N408MC (cn 29261/1192) (Photo 1 of 2). Take-off at 36L 9:21PM. Heavy smoke (rubber scraping) due to an off-center nose gear while at full thrust. This resulted in an aborted take-off. Emergency services rushed out immediately and the runway was closed. After inspection and reset the 2300 meters of runway left was enough to take off again and the aircraft was cleared by the tower. A visitor from Germany posted Fri April 4, 2008: "off-center" is describing it pretty mildly - the nose wheel is in cross runway direction. Look at the heavy tail rudder deployment, these pilots semm to be quite cold blooded fellas.

A visitor from United States posted Thu October 26, 2006: It looks like as though the number 1 engine (left most one in the picture) is shut down and not spinning (compare it with other 3 engines). The pilot is using full rudder to offset the thrust difference instead of a wheel lock.
