N905NA (cn 20107/86) Beauty and the beast. Discovery sit above the 747 after arriving at KSC. In all fairness, a voyage spanning 5.8 million miles and 219 complete orbits since blastoff July 26 from pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center can be a little bit harsh on ones looks and the smooth skin of the 747 is quite a contrast!

Shuttle looks a bit "exhausted" but again... its just the look :) Inside - clear and fully functional heart :P

A visitor from United States posted Thu December 20, 2007:
You have somehow managed to capture how graceful the shuttle can look...

A visitor from United States posted Sat July 14, 2007:
I think the shuttle needs some paint. :-) Great view. Enjoyed showing my kids.

A visitor from United States posted Mon July 9, 2007:
I think this is a great angle. Most shots of the 747/shuttle combination are side profile or wideshots. This level of detail is not seen.

My uncle has flown on the shuttle 5 times, once on Discovery.

This is a great picture of a space shuttle getting a piggy ride from a boeing747

Wow..still amazing to remember this.

Cool photo... Sadly time for a new shuttle. It's starting to seem suicidal just looking at the photo to go in orbit in that thing.

The shape of the two flight decks on top of each other is amazing.

Two of the largest birds of our times!
They are together!! Light, angle, details and almost a very good shot.
Suresh, thanks.

Amazing contrast between the aircraft- who knew that the aging humpback AA 747 could look better than the orbiter?

A visitor from South Africa posted Mon August 22, 2005:
Thanks for this close-up. It shows what heat this craft had to endure.

A visitor from Uruguay posted Mon August 22, 2005:
We can say these two are the enormous classics the lighting in this photo is great as you can perfectly see the difference in the skins a smooth Jumbo versus a harshly used Discovery

Discovery's Burden : Carrying America's Space Program Forward. by member eksath
Orbiter 103 has been the beast of burden with the highest # of missions (33) in Space. Discovery, the 3rd orbiter to become operational at Kennedy Space Center, was named after one of 2 ships that were used by the British explorer James Cook in the 1770s.
