It is so beautiful to see all those OLDer aircraft in formation. I worked at ARO aircraft Canada when these planes first started flying.
Sorry i only rated 5 stars!
Might be an old photo, but superb
Reminiscent of War of the Worlds.
There is a huge difference between delta wings and double-delta though, and even greater between delta wings and delta wings and canards, which Gripen, Typhoon, Rafale and several other planes have.
Delta wings haven't proved so popular though, despite people perhaps thinking in the fifties that this was the one and only future of flying. How many do we got now? Eurofighter Typhoon, Saab Gripen, Rafale, that kind of thing... a couple Concordes being airport decoration or museum object.... Some aging Tupolev bombers probably... And a single flying Vulcan to keep up the Spirit. After the failure of the Concorde I honestly don't believe that any airline will be able to run whatever new supersonic plane ergonomically enough and while maintaining a reasonable enough market share to not make losses. Therefore I find the new proposed studies of what company again, some company that wants to work with Airbus on a study for a Mach 5 (!!!) airliner ridiculous.
Futuristic photo ! | |
Delta Time! What a pity - it's over....
Wow!!! I definitely agree that this is a '50s sci-fi vision!
Amazing Shot! Just think, only 8 Years before this photo was taken the Lancaster was the front line bomber of the RAF!
Great catch! Looks like a 50's Sci-Fi scene. Really enjoy looking at these old gems!!! Keep them coming. Many thanks from YVR.
A very evocative shot from the bygone days of British aeronautical magnificence.
Simply unbelievable. A truly amazing, rare and beautiful picture. Really nice!
Alien invasion or paper plane convention? Just incredible.
So that is where the paper plane format comes from! Awesome shot
I saw a photo just like this in a book "British secret projects: jet bombers since 1949" (Tony Butler) on page 41 (Eric Morgan Collection)...this picture is better !
From Mexico: A splendid sample of the power of the man in the air; and it will be bigger!!!
Hard to believe that was 1953 !!. They look futuristic even in 2009 !!. A very important historical shot that is a great addition to the DB. Thanks for adding. Leezyjet.
Superb shot, they don't make them like that anymore
This is a very rare photo with two prototypes and four testbed aircraft with the original delta wing, before it was modified to the production standard.
It looks like a scene of "Star Wars".
Superb catch ! Cool to see this really old Vulcan's model and their old delta wings form too
Historical. Beautiful! 5 star shot. Spencer Wilmot.
