A visitor from Australia posted Wed December 17, 2008:Carby heat should be cold during late final - the whole reason is that when you attempt a balked landing go around the last thing on your mind is putting carby heat cold again. What happens next ??? The engine can not develop full power because it is sucking in hot air right when you need all the power you can get. Put carby heat to COLD on late final !
A visitor from Spain posted Tue April 15, 2008:Nowhere in the POH of the Cessna 172N recommends to to set Carburetor Heat to COLD during landing. On the contrary, it says "Carburettor heat should be applied prior to any significant reduction or closing the throttle". Carb Heat COLD is only advised in the "Balked landing" and "After landing" checklists, not before.
