Engine was destroyed at takeoff run. Fire fighting system worked perfect and was able to extinguish fire without external involvement. Nobody was injured. However plane was seriously damaged.

Very interesting pic! And it makes us realize that Tu-154M is a reliable plane: a fire in the engine is something really serious, yet the plane could land back and no one was injured. Many accidents happened with this aircraft recently, but it seems that they are due to bad maintenance or handling. Aeroflot, a world-class airline, didn't have any accident with loss of lives involving the Tu-154 since 1985.

Right! A very good shot! but there's a mistake in comment, my friends. We mustn't forget the crash of AFL's Tu154 in this very LED in 1991. CCCP-85097.
15 fatals.

Nice pic.
Russian built planes are amongst the best in the world, yes i agree accidents are probably the cause of bad maintenance.

Ah, poor AFL... There's nothing left but flying ex-Mavial aircraft...

Looks like a compressor stall. Notice that debris from the compressor disk have cut through the flaps and the engine nacelle.

Personally,I'm a fan of the Tu-154.However,the design seems a bit skewed as the rear engine(the damaged one) seems to be almost completely blocking the rear exit. Also, the ribs of the frame are partially visible as the flame has burnt through the skin of the aircraft!!Either way, nice shot----Karthik
