Unless a NATO reconnaissance aircraft photographed it over the Baltic, I believe I am the first in the "Free World" to see it!! It was the big surprise at the Paris Salon that year, but it was also a big surprise for me when it came to Copenhagen for re-fuelling a few days earlier. Note the airshow number H-833.

Russian aircraft might have lacked in luxury but were never ugly. At least as good in appearance as anything other in the world of aviation ever produced.. But what you see here is a really unique gizmo never existed neither before nor afterwards from any other manufacturer.. Love it!!!

I've seen it at Monino, I was feeling like an ant... a very gorgeous machine. I always thought that russian fighters and bombers are the most beautiful in the world. Sure, nothing like CAC Boomerang =)

WOW,that is amazing!
I thought the Mil Mi-12 has never been used again after a few testflights.
Absolutely cool to see it being used

Imagine seeing this in 1971. Looking at it from the year 2010 perspective, aviation hasn't made all that much progress..

Awesome shot of an magnific bird. Size does matter to the Russians. In Soviet-Russia the aircraft fly you.

Russian aircraft are always impressive, but seldom ugly. I remember to see this at TV for the first flight when I'm 11 years old ... Glorious USSR !!! ;-)
... How many aircraft made by Australia ?

Wonder how survivable the V-12 would've been on the battlefield...

Impressive! Very impressive. And less ugly than the F-117? Haha, that's not exactly a compliment ;). Never the less, Great shot!

The livery is unusual for that time... and I rather like it.

Well for all those complaining about the beauty of it, just like the bears, the ugliest bear is the most beautiful one in terms of aggressiveness. If this one was still operational, I'm sure Mi-26 would have become its baby sister.

I like the little tiny wheels in the rear of this beast. This is not so ugly as it's unique. --DtD
