Nicely lit and the weather knew when to stop raining and allow a blast of sun in to light this lovely bird's takeoff. I can remember these things shrieking into EGCC when I was a kid and all that noise and kerosene smell just comes back when you see these things "launching". Thanks for the shot.

Acft slewing left to compensate for crosswind. Wings at slight angle as pilot gets it crabbed correctly. Spray from acft departing runway being blown downwind. Runway lights disappearing into the spray. The angularity of the approach lights. Good photography in my opinion. From Mike in Canada

A visitor from United States posted Tue February 7, 2006: Great photo Fred, love the DC-8. He's not in a "twisted yaw" on take off. The wind is coming from his left (as evidenced by the direction the water spray is moving) and he's simply crabbing into the wind to maintain runway center line.

Its only a shame that we don't have the chance to see them here in Europe. I can almost hear the ringing in my ears from the sound of a departing DC-8.
