Great picture with the contrasting colors and the crispness of the features in the foreground and background. It's also interesting to note that the engine on the right wing is not spinning while those on the left wing are.

This photo really is stunning. It seems to capture some romance and mystery to a mining out post.

Hercules in the sky and on ground. In addition to Corona Borealis already noted, most of the constellation Hercules is there.

This is an incredible picture in how it captures both the beauty of nature and the beauty of technolgy. Yet there's harmony in the contrast, they both belong there. Wonderful colors, too. A remarkable example photographic art.

The Northern Lights are most difficult to capture but you got it just right with all the action on the ground as well. This picture must be shared with others as it can't be discribed in words. R.Watt Kingsville Ontario Canada

Excellent contrast between the natural phenomena of the light of the Aurora and the aircraft lights against the dark background of the night makes this a rare picture.

A visitor from United States posted Fri December 22, 2006:
The colors, angle, and setting are absolutely amazing.

A visitor from United States posted Fri December 22, 2006:
Wow, beautiful! Not only is the shot of the plane spiffy, but the Aurora is totally awesome!

A visitor from United States posted Fri December 22, 2006:
For openers teh photo boasts the contrast of the stark reds and gleaming, almost sinister shiny cockpit of the Herk as a reflection of man's technology, side by side with the cool, soft-edged greens of nature (or God, depending on your beliefs). Then, too there's the rigid geometry of the manmade with the open-ended ethereal nature of the Northern Lights. This photo is so different than most "aviation" shots and its uniqueness adds to the mix. And bonus points as my thoughts go out to the photographer, standing in what was undoubtedly freezing weather, making sure the picture was what was intended.

A visitor from United States posted Fri December 22, 2006:
The detail in the Aurora with the streamers and the color. I also liked the lights in the plane showing sharp contrast to the picture and also the pin point stars.

A visitor from United States posted Fri December 22, 2006:
Love the contrasting colors

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri December 22, 2006:
Great colours and perfect exposure...

A visitor from Spain posted Fri December 22, 2006:
Astronomy and aviation are my two passions! I think you can see constellation Corona Borealis. It's the wide U-shaped line of stars low in the horizon.

A visitor from United States posted Fri December 22, 2006:
By far one of the most mesmerizing shots I've seen in a long time!! Excellent shot 5 stars!!!

Perfect use of light, great composition.

A visitor from United States posted Fri December 22, 2006:
This is one of the most unique shots of Aurora Borealus that I think I have ever seen. Vivid clarity with definitive edges make this shot stand out as opposed to other "run of the mill" if you will photos.

A visitor from South Africa posted Thu December 21, 2006:
I get all nostalgic looking at the photo. What a contrast! You see the snow, you can feel the cold yet the plane appears warm and comforting . Beautifully captured.Magnificence in one snap doesn't come better than this. Well done photographer. No set can give lights like our mother nature. Glad you shared it with us mortals.

A visitor from Qatar posted Thu December 21, 2006:
Amazing shot! I love the long time exposure to capture the lights and yet the photo is very sharp! Almost makes me miss good ol' YK

A visitor from South Africa posted Thu December 21, 2006:
It is a good shot due to the fact that it is not often that you see a civlian herc and the contrast of the colours
