A question for Air Jamaica? Virtually every aircraft from every airline follows a procedure of "wheels off, gear up." But, leaving JFK Air Jamaica flights leave the gear down much longer. We thought one A340 was returning because she still had her gear down after reaching at least 4,000 feet. So, why? My flight instructor taught me "there's nothing as useless as runway behind you and altitude above you." The gear down only creates drag and affects the climb somewhat I'm sure.
