Caption
A rare In-Flight 'Economy' Cabin View (looking forward) in an Air New Zealand DC-10, flying between Sydney and Auckland in 1980. Photo taken (as Flight Attendants served refreshments) when we flew in ZK-NZQ across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand. The previous year ANZ 'sister-ship' ZK-NZP had crashed into Mt Erebus in Antarctica (on 28Nov1979, due to a navigation programming error) with the tragic loss of 257 lives (RIP). That was Flight TE901, the fourteenth ANZ scenic flight to Antarctica.

I lost my grandfather in the Erebus crash 28th Nov 1979, nothing brave about what you did, it was just a freak accident, thses things happen. Great photo.

Great photo of the interior of a great aircraft, the DC-10, belonging to a great airline, Air New Zealand. ZK-NZQ is sistership of ZK-NZP, sadly lost in Antartic on 28 november 1979.

Beautiful choice of seat upholstery colors, really reminds us of the 1970

Appreciate the nostalgic view. What does seem brave, by present day standards, is ANZ deciding not to fit overhead lockers over the centre seats!

Gotta love the Bright 70s decor, beats the Blue decor all the airlines have nowadays....

I think this is the only DC-10 I have seen where the seatback oxygen mask panels were cloth covered.
