It's a tool. Sure...some consideration is made to form, but they're secondary to function. Airlines don't particularly care what they look like from the outside when they're cruising at altitude saving money. Pax don't care what they look like when they're sitting in a seat saving money. Fuel savings and reliability are the two most important design considerations.

Not the best looker around but the numbers add up. And nothing but numbers matter to the banks & finance institutions, airline accountants and revenue managers. The rest is just aesthetics but you cant take that to bank or stakeholders. NUMBERS!!!!!

A visitor from Sweden posted Tue March 18, 2014:
Well it doesn't look as innovative as the 787 to me. Except for the nose and winglets it looks like an A330 to me. I don't like it (the nose + winglets).

A visitor from - posted Mon January 27, 2014:
Were it not for the number of windows, it would look like a regional jet.

A visitor from France posted Wed January 1, 2014:
@ To all comments concerning Airbus "spies" :
Maybe this nose shape is just the more efficient and both Boeing and Airbus chose it for their new liners ;-)

A visitor from - posted Mon September 2, 2013:
My gosh look at the wing dihedral. You can see the other winglet. Somebody said the vertical tail looks too small. But doesn't modern fly-by-wire make up for that? I know they were experimenting with planes with no tail at all to reduce drag. I'm surprised there hasn't been an airliner like that yet. Why not a V-tail?

A visitor from Netherlands posted Fri August 30, 2013:
This is a jewel in the crown.Much better looking than the 787 8 or 9,and when the stretched A350-1000 comes we see a winner in aviation history because she looks probably even better.

A visitor from United States posted Wed June 12, 2013:
@ the comment from Switzerland: The only ugly part of the A350 is the nose section and it has little resemblance to the 757's.

Both Airbus and Boeing are innovative and made big contributions to the development of aerospace industry, that's why they each have ~50% share of the global market for large commercial jets.

A visitor from Switzerland posted Fri June 7, 2013:
Great shot!
The spies at Airbus have done a great job at copying Boeing's work. The nose is reminiscent of a 757. Still, I wish Airbus the best of luck. If only they could come with innovations of their own...

A visitor from Mexico posted Mon June 3, 2013:
Does the Zorro mask have a practical use or was it painted that way to make it match the renders? Isn’t that trick a little cheap? Anyway, I think that the nose and the cockpit windows are the only strange features on this airplane. As for the rest of it I don’t think it looks ugly at all. - MX

A visitor from - posted Tue May 28, 2013:
The passenger windows look like the tiny windows of a Concorde. Other than that, it's not a bad looking plane - but it's nose does look very 757-ish. And for some reason, the tail looks too small - the vertical stabilizer seems much too tiny for the body size of the plane. Maybe it's just the angle of the photo. Will be nice to see it in airline liveries instead of Airbus.

A visitor from United States posted Mon May 27, 2013:
Basically, this is an aircraft that combines the best of both worlds (ie, an aircraft as economical as the A330-300, but with the same range as the A340-300).

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Wed May 22, 2013:
Looks better than the 380 :P

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Wed May 22, 2013:
If it wasnt for the a350 logos , id have thought this was a brand new 767 . . just dosnt look like an airbus to me . .theres something missing from it . . the pointy nose is gone . . looks like a boeing nose . and looks extremly slim aswell . .but nice looking bird tho

A visitor from Sweden posted Tue May 21, 2013:
Definitely not a 757. If anything more like a 764. I look forward to seeing it next to an A333 and Triple-7 for size comparison.

A visitor from - posted Mon May 20, 2013:
A 757 ? I would say this looks more like a refreshed 767 !
Anyway, nice shot.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon May 20, 2013:
Tank you T.Laurent very nice photo

A visitor from Jamaica posted Sun May 19, 2013:
The A350-900 is a totally gorgeous aircraft! The nose is pretty different from what I thought it would be, but it fits just right. Personally, the proportions are right! The cockpit windows... "cool shades". The sharklets: IS THE BOSS! - Good job Airbus, and looking forward to seeing the A345 XWB in the skies! #ADSG

A visitor from - posted Sat May 18, 2013:
Looks more like the 757! nonetheless its a memorable capture and another milestone for airbus perhaps

A visitor from United States posted Sat May 18, 2013:
The A330 is a million times better looking. Let's hope her performance will make up for her looks!

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat May 18, 2013:
Great photo, better looking than the 787, but that's not difficult, as its nearly as hideous as the 777.

A visitor from - posted Fri May 17, 2013:
I was expecting a new Airbus house colour, but they didn't change, by the way I'm wondering why the Trent XWB didn't have the sharktooth exhaust like the one on GEnX. Nice shot!

Definitely does not look like an Airbus! Where is the beauty of the Airbus A340-500/600 and the A330s? Maybe it will take some time to get use to it....Not a big fan of those winglets and the raccoon cockpit windows!!

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I am French and I say that this is an ugly plane. They should also do away with the winglets like the 787.

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Airbus sure can build 'em ugly! And such tiny windows!

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
This plane looked so much better with the original nose design:( Still glad to see it nearing its final stages!

Welcome to the world, A350! Now get busy doing MIA-Asia and all the other routes the other boys won't do :) Play nice with all the 777s and 787s out there!

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I always wonder if the nose has a "bubble" on the lower side or not?

Thx for picture, 5*.

However, I think from a different angle and without the pusher the A/C looks better.

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Great shot of this long-awaited bird. I wouldn't go so far as to call it ugly, but it's certainly goofy-looking; it looks unfinished somehow. In looking at the little thumbnail image I thought it was a 757 at first!

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I like it! not 100% sure about the A380 FD Windows but hey you can't have everything! :)

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I dont like it.

A visitor from Mauritius posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Beautiful plane. Actually looks much better than the renderings unlike the 787 which was kind of a disappointment, which is very unusual. With those wingtips(which should actually be called sharklets), the nose and the zorro mask lol, it's gonna be the most distinctive of the new twins for sure.

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Honestly I joint the group that say "is an ugly plane" I'm an airbus line lover but with the A350 I don't understand what happened. The line not is... and please don't say this "thing" is similar at A330...

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Hmm.. She's got glasses.. :) Brilliant looking plane. Nice shot

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Think of that front without the back wheel of the truck and the front looks much better :-)

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Interesting photo. I wouldn't call it ugly, just incredibly boring (now I see why there was no big roll-out). Cockpit and cabin windows are too small.

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I really don't see how this aircraft can be ugly in any way. I agree with the French poster below me! Just check out those winglets and cockpit windows... a thing of beauty. The 787, on the other hand, has absolutely disgusting cockpit windows

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I'm not sure if I like her but she certainly has some good looking elements. I 'm sure however that she will be a fine plane! Congrats for another first! Ilias D.

A visitor from France posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Great shot Laurent! Congrats! I like this livery but the design of 787 is definitely better! But maybe, I will change my opinion when it will fly...

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 14, 2013:
If it wasn't for that incredibly ugly nose, it would look beautiful! The nose lets it down though...

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I actually think that the A350 is a beautiful aircraft! I'm not usually a fond favorite of most of Airbus' design, but the cockpit windows on this beauty really set her off!! 0_0

A visitor from India posted Tue May 14, 2013:
The 787 may look like a glance of the future with its looks, but the A350 looks way sleeker and radical.

A visitor from Turkey posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Looks like a mix of A330+772+787. I think it looks better than the 787 to an extent

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
She's a beauty !

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Hey France, it's got nothing to do with being from the UK, the front of that plane is ghastly. It's the cockpit window lines more than anything. Tint those windows down and you have a better looking plane immediately, look at the artists renders of it.

A visitor from Canada posted Tue May 14, 2013:
What an AMAZING capture! Simply incredible, great to see the A350 in real life :)

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 14, 2013:
5* for the photo but not feeling the aircraft.

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Finally! The First Shot! Love it. The nose is deceiving just like it is on the 787. Different angles tell a different story. Few pictures on Airbus press release confirms it. She looks Good!

A visitor from Mexico posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Nice shot... Horribly ugly plane..

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 14, 2013:
It looks good. I don't know why everyone expects a super-efficient aircraft to look like a Ferrari with wings? It is a good looking, super efficient plane. Full stop.

A visitor from Jamaica posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Finally! Interesting design but why does it look so much like a B757 on steroids? I mean, the front is very reminiscent of the B757; just bigger. I'd think it would resemble the A330 or A340 more. Still, looking forward to seeing it in operation.

A visitor from Mexico posted Tue May 14, 2013:

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Interesting looking plane, looks like the 757 on pills. Still she needs a nose job. As long as she will fly it is all that maters.

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Five star for the picture!! Great catch!

But what an ugly face she has!!!

In the end (as a lot of people have said) it is not the looks, but the performance that makes a plane look good for airlines!

Congratulations Laurent!

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I disagree with those who say she's ugly. Yes, she has that ugly A380-looking nose, but it has very nice proportions over all. I like it.

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Big engines! are the cockpit windows supposed to be like that?

A visitor from Netherlands posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Here's 'the Netherlands' speaking... ugly she is... the nose looks stolen from a cartoon or lego, though I'm sure it is/will be a great aircraft and I'd love to fly on it. 787 just has better looks. btw UK = Airbus too.

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:

Too many sore losers posting their frustration because the nightmare liner still grounded? Come on guys man up and enjoy aviation, it goes both ways.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Interesting, I honestly can't decide whether this bird is beautiful or not ! I must admit it does look daddy of 757. I liked it compared to A330 as A350 length is just perfect and looks like balanced plane unlike A330. I think A340-600 is the best looking plane Airbus ever made. 787 Engines are better but overall A350-900 looks little better compared to 787.

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I'm a huge Airbus fan, but I am not impressed by the A350. It's almost as unproportional as a Tupolev design.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue May 14, 2013:
I think it looks good. My only criticism would be the shape of the windscreen. The rounded shape doesn't really suit.

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
What a beauty! Much more decent nose than 757/787. And so much more efficient ;-)

A visitor from - posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Doesn´t it look like a Tupolev on steroids?! Historic pic though!

A visitor from France posted Tue May 14, 2013:

A visitor from Germany posted Tue May 14, 2013:
Although I'm a big fan of Airbus I must admit that Boeing always creates the better looking aircraft. I don't think that the A350 is ugly but the 787 is still looking a bit better.
