Remark Photographer
F-WWOW (cn 001) The advanced new Airbus A380 flight deck. The most note worthy differences are the new larger LCD screens and a similiar type of CCU to Boeing which is used for the MFD's. A very interesting throttle lever set up with only two reverse thrust levers on the Number 2 and 3 engines. A fantastic a/c which will change the face of travel in the very near future.

A visitor from Finland posted Thu December 29, 2005:
I like that little joystick controlling such a big plane.

A visitor from Germany posted Thu December 29, 2005:
I believe what you think is the 777-like FCU (if you mean the buttons besides the autopilot panel) is indeed not for controlling the MFDs, but it is used to display different data on the NAV displays, like Waypoints, Airports, Constraints etc. This would be similar to other airbus types.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Thu December 29, 2005:
Detailed and well exposed, well done. the "coloured balls" on the windshield post are probably a low tech but effective way for the pilot to ensure his eyes are in the correct position after he adjusts his seat. Boeing use a similar system.

A visitor from Poland posted Wed December 28, 2005:
Great shot!
The A380 at first wasn't supposed to have ANY thrust reversers. Airbus assumed that it has enough braking power. But the FAA demanded thrust reversers, so the 2 internal engines received them.

A visitor from Mexico posted Wed December 28, 2005:
The best technology before your eyes! And to think the first airliners had not too much of this and the pilots had to fight with the controls. Nowadays you just push a little button... and that´s it! T.B.

A visitor from United States posted Wed December 28, 2005:
Those seats look old.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Wed December 28, 2005:

A visitor from Philippines posted Wed December 28, 2005:
You know what. the shot is really great.but airbus 380 sounds strange to me, too many computers!!!!! its ugly aerodynamic airfoil!!!!
what should the pilot do in this airplane? drink coffee? checking the screens? its nice to increas the safty but its really unfair to make the pilot just an observer.
think again pleas.

A visitor from Spain posted Wed December 28, 2005:
Yes, the FCU looks like a 777 one. But I always wanted to ask: what are the three colored small balls in the windshield pylon ?

A visitor from Egypt posted Wed December 28, 2005:
Detailed shot . Just wondering why are the thrust reverses on ? The aircraft isn't landing .
And for the ones interested , only 2 and 3 are set because 1 and 4 don't have any . Airbus had to remove them for weight .

A visitor from United States posted Wed December 28, 2005:
I'm not a big fan of the A380...yet, but the exterior camera shots of the gears is sweet! I'd watch that during take off and landing more than out the front.
