Long awaited, would like more from different angles

A visitor from Australia posted Sat January 16, 2010:
As in general in mechanical engineering an optical beautifull design with proper dimensions stands for good performance and I am happy to see this on the A400M

A visitor from Australia posted Sun December 6, 2009:
Great shot, ugly or not hope it lives up to expectations. Yeah love the props.

A visitor from - posted Sat November 28, 2009:
This is a very nice shot. Thank you for posting it. But I have to ask, besides the A-330/340, why does Airbus find it necessary to build such ugly aircraft? Maybe Airbus needs a design lesson from their French brethren at Dassault! And for those that argue that they military needs efficiency and not style, may I remind you of the SR-71? - Brett

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon November 16, 2009:
Different planes look similar because physics are the same since the Wright brothers' flight. Its not about copying or whatever, its about being efficient in one role or other, that's why all planes are not exactly the same....

A visitor from Malaysia posted Sat October 24, 2009:
Being a boeing fan,i never knew that airbus would pull this one together...it really looks cool...i cant believe im saying this, but congrats airbus...well,we will see how it performs in the royal malaysian air force soon...

A visitor from France posted Mon October 12, 2009:
Nice or uggly...Military need efficiency !

A visitor from France posted Mon June 22, 2009:
I love

A visitor from Germany posted Sat May 9, 2009:
OK, my grandma thinks all cars loke the same..that is, because she has no sense of cars. my grandma would also think, that all planes look the same.

But, the tail section from A400M and the AN-70 totally differs, the engines also, the landing gear belly button is different too. not to forget the props. But of course, both planes have wings, some device to mix the air, and those wheels in the middle and the front. Yeah, maybe that makes it so hard to distingiush both planes for some people, like my grandma...

A visitor from Russian Federation posted Sun March 29, 2009:
Not beautiful aircraft.

A visitor from United States posted Tue February 24, 2009:
Photo has all the crispness of technical rendering, clearly informative

A visitor from France posted Wed February 11, 2009:
Since they are a lot of Military Transport Aircraft on the market, it is not unlikely that a new type like the A400M would look similar like at least one of them. The design is given by design requirements that the aircraft has to meet, and not by competitors. That is why the result is a similar looking aircraft.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue February 10, 2009:
I can't say it's a clone of An-70 but I think it was "inspired" by Antonov ;)

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri November 7, 2008:
Extremely bright clear photo

A visitor from Serbia And Montenegro posted Wed October 29, 2008:
Great

A visitor from France posted Wed October 8, 2008:
To my mind, this plane is ugly

A visitor from Venezuela posted Thu August 28, 2008:
You can clearly see the influence of the Antonov 70 on this model.

A visitor from Spain posted Sun August 24, 2008:
Simply wonderful, brand-new, looks fantastic. Awesome!

A visitor from - posted Wed August 6, 2008:
This is what held up the A380? A high powered mutant of some kind inexplicably spawned between the C-17 and the An-22....well I like the props...

A visitor from Venezuela posted Wed August 6, 2008:
In 1998 i read in a german magazine that NATO countries were interested in getting a new-generation prop carrier, in order to withdraw the Transal C160 and the Hercules, but they were reluctant to buy the Antonov 70, that was already around, because some people wanted Airbus to get that contract. Ten years later, it is hard not think that information was more than rumours.

A visitor from United States posted Mon July 21, 2008:
Looks like a small C-17 wannabe with props and an ugly nose. Nonetheless, I think it will be a sufficient C-130 replacement. At least, it better be with the delays and growing expense....

A visitor from United States posted Wed July 16, 2008:
Nice Photo. Too bad its so far behind schedule. I hear some countries are having to buy C-17s to fill gaps from not recieving A400s in time to replace ageing aircraft. Way to go Airbus.

A visitor from - posted Fri July 11, 2008:
It looks like Ukrainan Antonov 70 which was built about 15 years ago. But in any case it is perfect.

A visitor from France posted Thu July 10, 2008:
Its beautifull!!!

A visitor from United States posted Thu July 10, 2008:
The nose section reminds me of a C-141 and the tail section of a C-17.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Thu July 10, 2008:
Nice photo, love the props. looks alot like the C-17 the tail is identical.

A visitor from United States posted Thu July 10, 2008:
Flares in background are a nice touch.

A visitor from Canada posted Wed July 9, 2008:
I can't believe so many people find this airplane ugly! It gives off a deep impression of function over looks and that in itself makes this military craft gracious. Those scimitar shaped props are just breathtaking. I'd love to hear it take off. Good job Airbus!

A visitor from - posted Tue July 1, 2008:
Nice picture, really awesome aircraft!

A visitor from Israel posted Tue July 1, 2008:
Nice photo!
i like the contra props :)

A visitor from Poland posted Sun June 29, 2008:
AND a first picutre on a.net ;) Congrats! Looks like a short C-130 combined with a C-17...

A visitor from - posted Sat June 28, 2008:
What a beautiful plane!!

A visitor from Spain posted Sat June 28, 2008:
A great milestone for aeronautic industry in Spain. It is the largest aircraft assembled in our country. Also Spain is responsible for 10% of the Airbus 380 and 14% for the eurofighter

A visitor from France posted Sat June 28, 2008:
Out at last !

A visitor from Netherlands posted Sat June 28, 2008:
Well, I must say that on the thumbnail it looks like a C-17 with props:)

A visitor from United States posted Sat June 28, 2008:
I love those sexy props. This plane looks so much better than the aging C130.

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Must be a brand new aircraft; never seen this one
before. Looks nice!

A visitor from Germany posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Very nice

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Well done Airbus...the fuel savings from the turboprops will probably pay for the airplane in this day and age...

A visitor from - posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Nice picture, awesome airplane!

A visitor from - posted Fri June 27, 2008:
I cannot wait to see this beauty in full Luftwaffe colors!

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Nice Airbus. A C-5 Copycat

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Boy that thing is ugly! But very good shot of it

A visitor from - posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Congrats Airbus for yet another feat in aviation history... Interesting to find mid-air refuelable part in the front... Just imagining about Airbus coming out with A-380 along with backdoor entry like of A-400 !!!!

A visitor from Netherlands posted Fri June 27, 2008:
The props look good.
The rest is ugly.

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 27, 2008:
If the STOL capability, power to weight ratio, fuel consumption and cargo handling is better than a C-17 we have a winner.

But even if they are, the politicians decide anyway.

A visitor from Finland posted Fri June 27, 2008:

A visitor from Russian Federation posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Welcome to the skies, A400m!

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 27, 2008:
It does look a lot like a C-17, except for the props and the refuel boom. Very pretty.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri June 27, 2008:
...and another beautiful airbus is born.

A visitor from New Zealand posted Fri June 27, 2008:
An excellent view of a new aircraft showing its useful purpose of general transport and long range reconnaisance duties. I wonder if the props are of the contra rotating type... A nice clean shot of a powerful newcomer..

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 27, 2008:
OK.... So this is how they managed to delay the A380 for 3 years.

A visitor from Australia posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Wicked looking machine!

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Looks like a cross between a C-17 an Antonov An-70 and the CASA... Very cool!

A visitor from Poland posted Fri June 27, 2008:
Looks like nice competition to Hercules or C-17 from US. Good job. Hope it's as good as rest, or even better.

A visitor from Belgium posted Thu June 26, 2008:

A visitor from Canada posted Thu June 26, 2008:

A visitor from - posted Thu June 26, 2008:
So many years wishing to see this plane.
I like her very much!!

A visitor from United States posted Thu June 26, 2008:
Its a European C130....They pretty much copied the configuration. But nice photo and unique props.

A visitor from New Zealand posted Thu June 26, 2008:
Interesting aircraft. How standard is it to have counter rotating props on the same wing?

A visitor from United States posted Thu June 26, 2008:
A nice looking aircraft. Being a Boeing fan, nevertheless Congrats to Airbus!

Looks like a propeller version of C-17. But Looks good. Thanks for sharing this picture.

A visitor from Germany posted Thu June 26, 2008:
Plane is cool, though I'm not too keen on the C-17-like tail - that part is a bit ugly. Props look wicked though.

A visitor from Finland posted Thu June 26, 2008:
This beauty looks like a hybrid mix of the different transports... the C-17, the Transall C-160, the Hercules... and ends up beating all of them in the looks department! Hoping to see her soon!

A visitor from New Zealand posted Thu June 26, 2008:
Note also the props rotate in opposite directions too.

A visitor from Argentina posted Thu June 26, 2008:
What a beautiful An-70... oops, A-400M. In the West people say all the time that Russia copies their aircraft, what do they have to say now?

A visitor from India posted Thu June 26, 2008:
Dosent look too bad at all......Infact i love tose propellers of hers as well as the refuelling boom above the nose, interesting entry into military equipment for Airbus. Here's wishing them all the success.
