We (or at least I) salute the pilot/fo signaling they are on their own from here on out.

To the person from France, it is a sign to the flight crew that they are cleared to taxi and that they are responsible to watch where they are going.

It's a standard practice in Japan, to "salute" the departing aircraft and crew. Note that the pilot also wears white gloves.

Interesting capture, can anyone explain why they are saluting the aircraft / pilot? Is it customary or is there a VIP on board?
