Actually, no, these 747-400D fly some routes within Japan that are far more than one hour such as the HND-OKA which is around 2.5 hours. They used to be mainly used on the HND-ITM route until Japanese government came up with the noise restrictions of limiting aircraft to two engines at ITM so the 744D where phased out for the 772s and 773s. Don't believe it? Try finding any regular sightings pictures of 744D at ITM after April 2006.

To the visitor from the USA below: No, the seats don't look too comfortable. This is a 747-400D, a special short-range version for domestic flights intra-Japan. A typical flight will last just one hour, for those sectors these seats are OK. The 747s that are used for intercontinental flights have far better seats.

I don't think those seats are comfy but then again the 747-400D's are used for short distance flights.
