Horrible livery! It reminds me of the bland AEROFLOT livery circa early 90's. Take a look at an Aeroflot A310 from 1993-94, and compare the two to see what I mean.

A visitor from United States posted Wed February 6, 2013:
At last, AA comes up with a livery that matches their service!

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue January 22, 2013:
Its not that bad, me think its actually alright as some other liveries are worse. Don't understand why some people are complaining about the tail, atleast its the American flag. Unlike the flag carrier across the pond, which back in 97 had designs of every other country apart from its own on the tails.

A visitor from - posted Tue January 22, 2013:
I don't know what to make of this new paint scheme as I have a few mixed views about it. I suppose the airline needed to change it if it wanted to portray an image of moving forward and being modern and not a sense of being stuck in the past. But I loved the traditional bare metal livery that had become unique to American and is now so rarely used. Though this new livery may grow on me like the Finnair one did.

A visitor from United States posted Mon January 21, 2013:
Watch the new video of the re-branding of American. It actually makes sense and a lot of $$ went into it. The tail design was designed around the idea of several aircraft parked next to each other and it creates the illusion of 1 really big American Flag.

A visitor from Finland posted Mon January 21, 2013:
Awesome new livery!

A visitor from - posted Mon January 21, 2013:
Great pic. Hated the livery upon reveal, especially the tail. Grew on me faster than any other new livery ever had. Absolutely love it now!

A visitor from Netherlands posted Sun January 20, 2013:
No. Now, when an American Airlines plane has landed, nobody (of the normal non-aviation people) will know until they see it from up-close.
'What a patriotic fancy new budget carrier! Btw where are the American Airlines' jets hiding?'

A visitor from Australia posted Sat January 19, 2013:
Now, when any American airlines plane lands at a airport, will they play star spangled banner?

A visitor from - posted Sat January 19, 2013:
Delta doesn't have the worst scheme anymore.

A visitor from United States posted Sat January 19, 2013:
Great photo, but the new livery makes me puke. Hope it gets replaced by the US one soon!

A visitor from United States posted Sat January 19, 2013:
As a glass half full kinda guy, I think it's not too bad, at least they didn't go for a boring Euro white. Their timeless livery may be gone in the near future, but at least they're still kicking, unlike Northwest & Continental!

Regards from SAN

Dont like the new livery it awful

A visitor from - posted Sat January 19, 2013:
I love it. We all know they couldn't keep bare metal in this day and age so I think this is a clever way to take the brand forward. The logo still looks simple but a bit more interesting, the large titles are OK but a little untidy with the window cut outs, the grey looks perfect and I really like the fact that they kept the red, white and blue stripes...and kept them straight and not wavy! I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of a bunch of those tail fins lined up at the gate. En masse they should look powerful.

A visitor from - posted Sat January 19, 2013:
To the "patriot" below -- when shown on moving vehicles, such as on the fuselage of an aircraft, the flag should be reversed so that the Union can be displayed on the upper left corner, as per the U.S. Flag Code.

A visitor from Colombia posted Sat January 19, 2013:
C'mon clean winglets !?!? looks cheap

A visitor from United States posted Sat January 19, 2013:
Terrible - looks like it needs to be painted again

A visitor from - posted Sat January 19, 2013:
No, I don't like it very much. I'd prefer the metallic look of the previous livery and the tail is an absolute disaster. Though the new logo is not very bad in my opinion.

A visitor from United States posted Sat January 19, 2013:
What a waste of money

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat January 19, 2013:
Love it, Looks fantastic in my opinion

A visitor from - posted Sat January 19, 2013:
AA needed to spend some more money, did they? Why ruin an iconic paint scheme, spend millions repainting the entire fleet, and then make it look like a flying Greyhound bus? The millions they are going to spend on repainting time, materials and down aircraft would have been better spent ensuring job security for their employees (no, I am not one of them. Nor do I know any) A sad end to the iconic chrome aircraft with their definative red white and blue stripes. -From Canada.

A visitor from - posted Sat January 19, 2013:
I like it, something modern and clean. I'm glad they are getting rid of that ugly bare metal look!

A visitor from Ireland posted Sat January 19, 2013:
Great shot. I love the flag on the tail.

A visitor from United States posted Sat January 19, 2013:
I think it's absolutely beautiful. The clear blue sky, that is.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Sat January 19, 2013:
What an insult to AA-lovers!First united and now american-airlines.
Can anyone tell me what is designed,my 8 year old nephew can draw this one.

A visitor from United States posted Sat January 19, 2013:
It's replacing maybe one of the most iconic liveries out there, so it's gonna take some time to get used to. Seeing it in person up close should do it better justice. I like it. Great photo.

A visitor from United States posted Sat January 19, 2013:
Beautiful livery and logo! AA got it right.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Sat January 19, 2013:
When you compare this picture with one of a similar aircraft in the 'old' colours, the former livery looks quite dated. So, it is a change I can live with. My wife thinks the new design is great.

A visitor from Saudi Arabia posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Thx for sharing,, but where are the 50 stars?? I guess they are just imitating EMIRATES ;)

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Will such efforts help improve service quality ? Check Skytrax to see how much AA is complained. Not a single complaint was about the old livery.

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Ugh. Captain America Airlines. Wonder what the American Eagle livery will look like...

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Hated it... then LOVED it! Amazing can't wait to see airport and onboard rebranding. 5 Stars!

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Perfect Picture - but Ireally dont like the livery! I prefer the classic AA- livery which looks perfect also on the newest airliners.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Wost thing about it is probably that the previous livery is so much American Airlines, probably one of the 100 or 50 most recognisable brands in the world... and this is not necessarily horrible to me, just way more random and yeah horrible in relation to the previous one.
And the 787 is to me not really an excuse for this grey instead of polishing, the 787 also has some metal in it, and just have them look a bit different then, so what? You would not suddenly mistake it for another airline. Anything better than this drab grey.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Why American, why????

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
They can do a festive version of this on occasion, where the red and white stripes envelop the entire hull:)

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Love the new livery!! nice photo. Greetings from Hungary

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri January 18, 2013:
This livery is awesome.Of course it`s totally different to the old one but it looks smart and clean.AA has finally arrived in the 21st century.

A visitor from Canada posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Nice photo...but that tail: Cheap post Soviet charter airline. Or Cubana. Either way...not pretty.

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Great shot. Love the fuselage writing and logo but the tail is dreadful. Maybe it'll grow on me.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri January 18, 2013:
The new logo on the tail is absolutely fantastic! On the other hand, the loss of a metallic livery is a wrong move.

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
They totally killed the last interesting livery on earth, the bare metal was amazing. Now it`s just one more "look at the tail to find out who" airline. A pitty!

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Gotta wonder how much was spent on this redesign. I know the shiny silver scheme was decades old, but it was absolutely iconic. A minor update/variation of that would have been better.

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Nice picture, another boring monochomatic and terrible livery go back to the previous one. i undetstand aircraft materiales technology but aluminum can be painted. natural metal and previous aa logo will be missed

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 18, 2013:
How come that tail design makes me think of the Texas flag or Texas in general, not "American Airlines"?

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 18, 2013:
WAY to busy on the tail. Horrible artwork. Great color on the fuselage.

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 18, 2013:
This is terrible...If you are going to change it, change it back to old Astrojet Livery.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri January 18, 2013:
After all the waiting, that has to be one of the worst livery's I've ever seen. It looks like a poor relation to Cubana!!!!!

A visitor from Macedonia, The Former Yugoslav Republic Of posted Fri January 18, 2013:

Wonderful airline

A visitor from Germany posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Good pic of something that looks like a kitchen towel.
btw. taste is nondisputable!

A visitor from Netherlands posted Fri January 18, 2013:
I like it. At airports everyone will instantly recognise these tails. The recurrence of the red white and blue at the front nicely balances the design. The only thing I wonder about is the font type, perhaps something slightly more frivolous (and black) might have been nice.

A visitor from Spain posted Fri January 18, 2013:
One of the ugliest tails I've ever seen. The design could be OK for the winglets, but not for the tail. And the eagle is... not an eagle. :-(
On the other hand the colour is fantastic, as is the american title.

The picture really good, thanks.

A visitor from Sweden posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Gonna go against the tide here - I think the tail is great, as well as the logo. I wish they would've kept more of the metallic look, now it's just... grey.

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Five star shot, Christian, but I'm underwhelmed by the new livery. I have to agree with the comment that it is reminiscent of a Greyhound bus. The grey is more of a mistake than the tail; I think the design would be improved a great deal if the main color was white.

A visitor from Kuwait posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Looks like a charter company logo.
Ugly logo indeed.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri January 18, 2013:
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !

A visitor from - posted Fri January 18, 2013:
I like the font. I absolutely hate the tail.

A visitor from - posted Thu January 17, 2013:
I guess if AA had placed a wavy flag on the tail then everyone would say they ripped off the design from BA. The tail is all wrong. The American font is fine but too big and gets 'choppy' with the windows. Place it above the windows or figure a way to make it be a bit more bold. The only things to like since they really can't polish carbon fibre on their up coming 787's is the silver/grey and the 'semi eagle logo' ahead of the American title. That tail is just killing it. Nice picture of a bad design by the way. Sorry.

A visitor from Australia posted Thu January 17, 2013:
I hate the tail.... I do like the grey, I like the font of American, everything else is good.... but that tail is hideous.

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
Great picture. But is it just me or did American get the flag wrong? The Blue is in the top LEFT corner, clowns.

A visitor from Singapore posted Thu January 17, 2013:
4 star picture, with no watermark when you really don't need one = 5 star picture.

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
Finally! It's about time American started modernizing their fleet (ideally, they would get such aircraft as 787s and A380s, or more 737s to replace their aging MD-80 fleet, but I guess this is a good start)

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
Horrible horrible horrible. Come on American Airlines. You could have at least put the actual flag of the US on there somewhere

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Thu January 17, 2013:
I love it, the heavies will be an eye catcher in DUB!

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
It's hard to find words for such a poor design. :(

A visitor from - posted Thu January 17, 2013:
Maybe one of the ugliest liveries we've seen around! It's really a shame for such a great airline..

A visitor from - posted Thu January 17, 2013:
You can tell this is going to be a popular shot for a while.... ;)

A visitor from - posted Thu January 17, 2013:
OH MY GOD. It's been what, 40-50 years? Not too bad.

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
I hate the new design...........a former AA stewardess.

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
Hey, at least we still have the beak from their iconic eagle :)
I'm sure they were not too excited about dropping the bare metal livery but with the 787 joining their fleet they had no choice. The silver is a good alternative to bare metal, the new titles and logo are not bad either, but that tail design?! I hope it won't stay for too long.

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
I'm as patriotic as the next guy, but horrible livery. Too much of a radical departure from the traditional AA.

A visitor from - posted Thu January 17, 2013:
Nice golden lighting and crisp. Not liking the new AA scheme. I'd be the first to say that AA needed to update their' 60's design but this is just wrong. Somehow it reminds me of Walmart... cheap and tacky.

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
I love the capture and American's New Livery, Thanks!

A visitor from Netherlands posted Thu January 17, 2013:
Terrible new livery. Stick to the old one please

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Thu January 17, 2013:
Nice picture, shame about the awful new livery.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Thu January 17, 2013:
I think: not too bad, but seeing where they come from still a major disappointment. Strange that people get paid to design and others to approve this. Missing the Eagle.

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
That.....looks awful :-( Great pic though!

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:

Good pic!
But the livery sucks.......
Not your fault though, congrats on getting the pic!

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
Not impressive at all. They should have done more of an American flag on the tail and painted the body white.

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 17, 2013:
This is a good livery, but I cannot believe that they would change the logo after decades! Congrats, AA!

A visitor from - posted Thu January 17, 2013:

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Thu January 17, 2013:
The tail is horrendous, the fuselage text and logo is great. They should have put the new logo on the tail. The sorry excuse for an American flag looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old for clip-art in Microsoft Word.
