A visitor from - posted Wed February 6, 2013: Horrible livery! It reminds me of the bland AEROFLOT livery circa early 90's. Take a look at an Aeroflot A310 from 1993-94, and compare the two to see what I mean.

Don't understand why some people are complaining about the tail, atleast its the American flag. Unlike the flag carrier across the pond, which back in 97 had designs of every other country apart from its own on the tails.

I suppose the airline needed to change it if it wanted to portray an image of moving forward and being modern and not a sense of being stuck in the past. But I loved the traditional bare metal livery that had become unique to American and is now so rarely used. Though this new livery may grow on me like the Finnair one did.

The tail design was designed around the idea of several aircraft parked next to each other and it creates the illusion of 1 really big American Flag.

A visitor from - posted Sat January 19, 2013: I love it. We all know they couldn't keep bare metal in this day and age so I think this is a clever way to take the brand forward. The logo still looks simple but a bit more interesting, the large titles are OK but a little untidy with the window cut outs, the grey looks perfect and I really like the fact that they kept the red, white and blue stripes...and kept them straight and not wavy! I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of a bunch of those tail fins lined up at the gate. En masse they should look powerful.
A visitor from - posted Sat January 19, 2013: To the "patriot" below -- when shown on moving vehicles, such as on the fuselage of an aircraft, the flag should be reversed so that the Union can be displayed on the upper left corner, as per the U.S. Flag Code.

Why ruin an iconic paint scheme, spend millions repainting the entire fleet, and then make it look like a flying Greyhound bus? The millions they are going to spend on repainting time, materials and down aircraft would have been better spent ensuring job security for their employees (no, I am not one of them. Nor do I know any) A sad end to the iconic chrome aircraft with their definative red white and blue stripes. -From Canada.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Fri January 18, 2013: Wost thing about it is probably that the previous livery is so much American Airlines, probably one of the 100 or 50 most recognisable brands in the world... and this is not necessarily horrible to me, just way more random and yeah horrible in relation to the previous one. And the 787 is to me not really an excuse for this grey instead of polishing, the 787 also has some metal in it, and just have them look a bit different then, so what? You would not suddenly mistake it for another airline. Anything better than this drab grey.

The recurrence of the red white and blue at the front nicely balances the design. The only thing I wonder about is the font type, perhaps something slightly more frivolous (and black) might have been nice.

The grey is more of a mistake than the tail; I think the design would be improved a great deal if the main color was white.

A visitor from - posted Thu January 17, 2013: I guess if AA had placed a wavy flag on the tail then everyone would say they ripped off the design from BA. The tail is all wrong. The American font is fine but too big and gets 'choppy' with the windows. Place it above the windows or figure a way to make it be a bit more bold. The only things to like since they really can't polish carbon fibre on their up coming 787's is the silver/grey and the 'semi eagle logo' ahead of the American title. That tail is just killing it. Nice picture of a bad design by the way. Sorry.
