As lovely as the capture of this image is... come on, AA. This is incredibly dull and disappointing. I'm really going to miss the classic pin-striping and polished aluminum of the past.

Even though I still need to get used to the new American Airlines livery, it does look very nice at night!!! Five Stars Ryan!!! Roger Cannegieter

I don't like it. Anyone could have such a livery. On the contrary, AA's previous "livery" of polished aluminium and 3 long stripes was unique and distinctive.

I like the new livery. The old one was really outdated in my opinion. Nice shot, by the way!

Love the new livery, nothing could beat the original, but this is a great alternative!

HATE it. Hey wait a minute, that's America West's livery ! Of course you know that US Airways is really America West. They moved their headquarters to Phoenix and even kept the AW call-sign "Cactus." Bye bye American Airlines. ....er, "Cactus"

I like it! Why all the drama about the tail? Air France, Aeroflot, among many others have their country's flag on the tail. I think it looks good!

Think im going to be sick!!! at least keep the polished aluminum!

Wow, that is one ugly tail, it's so crass. It ruins the rest, which is quite nice and clean looking.

I have a tradition when i board an AA plane of looking for a reflection of something, anything, in the silver. it always makes me smile and i find it oddly reassuring. i've grown up crossing the puddle with AA and, to me, this looks like a whole different character of carrier, and not one that i'm comfortable with. after so much time and money i'd have thought they could have done better.

I've seen criticism of this color scheme all over the net but no one provides a photoshop rendering to show better ideas

WOW! Lots of negativity as usual huh? Well, it's a stunning livery and I think AA hit it right on the nose. Nicely done AA.

I think this is a great example of making coporate decisions without taking into account users and airliners community. A big mistake. Maybee by influenced from BA (IAG). Don't want to know how much AA paid for the new design!...

Interesting picture, thanks for sharing, I really like the new livery! The old one was nice too - an absolute classic among liveries - but this is definitely more 21st century.

Great picture. People will love or hate the paint scheme. The tail is rather unharmonic and dare I say reminds me of Cubana.

Very good picture, but the subject is very boring...I guess you don't need much of an imagination these days to design an airline logo, and color scheme.

I think that this scheme really grows on you. I it surpasses the old American Airlines logo and scheme by leaps and bounds... American Airlines steered away from polished metal because they could not do it on any of the 787-8... It is also VERY costly to use polished metal. Beautifully executed airplane, there is nothing like it out there! Round of applause for American Airlines!

Lets be abundantly clear. That is NOT the American flag on that tail. I don't see STARS and stripes. That's a tye-dye rendition of a Wal-Mart Shirt. Absolutely horrible!

I hated it at first, but now I think it's terrific. Well done.

Ok, I'm going to tell all you why AA changed its livery. It's because she is going to receive the 787's, and there is no way to put the polhished aluminum livery on it, because of the composite material of the fuselage. I think it is a pretty nice livery that one, because it marks the beggining of a new era for AAL. 5 stars.

Great photo. Just because manages to show everyone how ugly is the new livery of AA. The tail design is horrible. My butcher could have done it much better. Design is definitely not the specialization of AA!

Great capture. And I have to agree: this is the new paint for a soon-to-be-combined USAirways / American. Sadly, though, corporate offices will head to Dallas. There will soon be some really nice high rise offices for lease in Tempe, AZ.

If the tail is supposed to represent the American flag, where are the stars? And what are the blue stripes supposed to represent? Does not loook American to me.

Nice shot, but very ugly livery, for which AA should receive an award for the worst corporate logo ever. Makes Air France look beautiful!

The photograph is great, unfortunately it was marred by the wretched paint job on a lovely B737-800. Sorry American, your design team dropped the ball on this one.

There are a few reasons why they changed (had to change) the livery, mostly because if they would apply the old aluminium livery to the dreamliner it would add a couple of 100lbs, a second reason is the rebranding of the "new" AA and I'm sure there are many more....

Beautiful livery! Much better than the current one. I have always wondered why AA had retained for so long their livery, that looks so outdated, so from the fifties

According to the launch video, the planes will still be polished aluminum, no? Or will they be rocking a NWA-style silver-esque base coat?

People love it, while others hate it. I like the new look though it's going to take a wee bit to get used to it. Hmmm...this might sound odd but the new livery does remind of me of the Carnival Cruises logo.

Great picture, dark background makes the subject stand out. I like the livery, was tired of the polished aluminum look.

Looks cheap to me!I know polished metal is not possible
on their dreamliners because of composites but::::: this very ugly the tail sucks american with stripes only?Same designers who advised united i guess.

They screwed up the tail everything else is fine.. no more polished aluminum because they may buy the 787 or some future plane with a lot of composite skin..

I dont like how they dont put the traditional "AA" on the tail

Great photo - it captures well what must be the most-talked about livery change in decades. Polished aluminum liveries can not be an option any longer, as airplane materials are changing to must-be-painted composites. This new livery saves maintenance for AA - no more specialized equipment and lots of time to polish the skin. I wish the base color was more silvery like Aeroflot, but I like the new livery very much. Nice, clean lettering, and stripes that make you think of the US flag without actually duplicating it. Can't wait to see this on the 777!

It is an interesting new livery, however I will miss the piano keys reflecting on the aluminium.

Excellent capture from this angle of the new logo. It really does look like Greyhound's logo missing the greyhound's body. AA what were you thinking. This is horrible. Why airlines don't have contests open to everyone for new logos and liveries is beyond me. It would be a lot cheaper to offer a few free flights for the winner and they would get far more designs to look at. If they had open voting for the top three designs this one would lose even if the other two were the old AA livery.

The logo is cheap and unappealing. Amazing that they paid money for this. A grade schooler would have done a better job!

Photo-wise this is a nice picture. Good use of subject and backround. As for the new livery....it's a stinker. Bland and unimaginative....where o' where have cheatlines gone???

What did graphic designers do before gradients ... s-i-g-h ... the single striking thing is the understated eagle's head reversed out of the two-colour ribbon (stripe? speedband? what are they calling this component?) ...this could have made a fabulous fin design instead of more bl**dy stripes.

Was there ever a new airline livery that wasn't widely panned when it was first seen? And how many of those "worst ever" new liveries were later seen to be classics? I did think the Earth had tilted on its axis when I saw this, just because AA has had that iconic red white 'n' blue over bare metal scheme for ages, but this is new and smart and still red white 'n' blue. And the photo shows it well, standing out against the black background of the hangar interior.

The new livery doesn´t have to please me or anybody else but AA was well known all over. They should have kept that on the tail.

I do not like this livery, I love the old one, To see the glaring sun against the crome look so good
