I know that if the photographer was standing on the runway he could have triggered a go-around by the pilots. Though dangerous, I believe the risk was worth it. Such a picture could not have been taken in most countries. Now, I hope the photographer doesn’t get jailed after publishing this frame….
A visitor from - posted Mon January 31, 2011: Toncontin is a special airport for those of us who fly there and like to take pictures here. A couple of years ago, there was a street in the place were this shot was taken, were all day long there was a flow of heavy traffic, including buses, cars, and trucks. By the time this shot was taken, the runway extension had just began and the same security divisions for the airport were still there. The only difference with SXM is that in TNT we don´t have a nearby ocean, but a couple of mountains surrounding the airport.

However it reflects the fact that Toncontin is not only dangerous because of its location but the lack of security in the runway. Even if you were an airport official you would not be authorized to be in that location with a landing aircraft.
