American Airlines flight 1945 MIA-DFW as we approached DFW after a short flight from Miami we were told Dallas Fort Worth was closed due to heavy rain, strong winds, and low visibility. This view is moments prior to entering a violent storm cell which shook our 777 around like a tin can, opening overhead bins and periodically initiating the emergency oxygen masks to drop down. Some nice hail damage also visable on the wing here. Taken from seat 10F Business Class.

Interesting... While I cant see the wx return upfront I would be calling atc to get around that stuff any way they could work it.

Ahhh, don't we rely on those noble men to pilot heavies through the most violent storms to bring us down the ILS to where we need to go . . . what a wonderful profession

Peheww... what a story. Shaking 777 around like a tin can. Gotta feel that, it'd be a good experience.

Cool picture Dan! Also very odd to see that hail damage on the wing!

As a professional pilot I would be using my weather radar and stormscope (if fitted) as well as ATC to deviate round bad weather. No one in their right mind flies through that stuff if there is another option - and there is always another option! ;) The danger that bad weather can pose to flight safety is not to be joked about as well as the very expensive repairs that often result!

If this storm is either a rain storm or a strong thunderstorm, I hope the pilot had fair visability.
I always wonder how it feels to be on an plane during rain.

How could a non-depressurization situation cause oxygen masks to drop?
