This photo was a present for me from my grandfather many years ago. Aircraft has an old registration number and big nose sensor used during flight testing. Thanks to my friends Valeriy K. and Artyom Anikeev who helps me to edit this photo!

A rare historical photo.

> ...and big nose antenna

That's not an antenna, that's a sensor used during flight testing. It should be sensing the undisturbed airflow parameters.

Not only is this photograph historically significant, it is also of very high quality. What a great combo the Mriya and Buran made. Need I mention it is worth 5 stars?

Oh my God! Call 911! The Rooskies are stealing a shuttle! Did the Buran ever see outer space or did it just ride around on the Mriya?

Amazing photo but, why did the soviet union spend so much money building almost an exact replica of our (USA) space shuttle to only fly it once and unmanned? Made no damn sense to me. My father built the SSME throttling controls at Honeywell Minneapolis,MN. Soviets wasted a lot of money on nothing.

In 1988-1991 we had very big problems with money then USSR was crashed...i think it's the main reason of Buran's fail.

Great pic. Some guys from the US should really read a bit about the Buran before misrepresenting it as a SS replica.

Amazing Picture. and for this lonely US Guy: Buran got a higher payload and was able to operate as an unmanned Shuttle. OK, it only sees an orbit once, but it worked ;) unfortunately the USSR crashed down.. if Russia needs to have a lot more Capacity to lift payloads or men into Orbit they may need to reactivate the Buran and the Energija Project.. and i will see it launched at our European launchsite right next to the Equator...

"If only..., It could have..., It would have..." But it didn't. Oh well. The Soviets will always have Sputnik.
