Excellent picture of an unusual boarding.
Nice photo. if not people's clothes I can think it from USSR times :) to clarify opinions about "cargo hold" - you can see title "rows 33-45" on door, so this title can't be on real cargo door :)
Pure genius! | |
To visitor from Australia: those shelves near stairs were designed initially for pax luggage only - for those who don't want to wait for getting their bags in airport after flight. Probably now some carriers use this compartment for other different needs - like those you told.
Il-86 has THREE "cargo holds" :)))) But seriously - two cargo holds are at the opposite side of fuselage but this is just one (of three) integral ladder designed exclusively for pax.
To the previous visitors - Thank you very much for your feedback. I can not elaborate on the rear entrance, however the center and forward entrances (which I used on both flights) actually DID contain cargo. There were shelves left & right of the stairs, holding small freight like parcels and support equipment. Ship 109 was ordered by Aeroflot initially, so it may be differently configured from other ILW airframes. It certainly was a memorable flight and one could tell that the ILWs are heavy aircraft.
Looks like the photographer saw IL-86 first time. Of course, that is NOT a cargo hold!
Great one! I used to get up the plane this way)) But I thought this is not cargo hold... It's specially designed ladder for passangers) 5* Artyom:D
