A29-53 (cn 16738) A P-40/Mustang Cross! Rare low res view of RAAF Kittyhawk IA A29-53 on outdoor display at the Moorabbin Aviation Museum (MAM) in early 1974. This P-40E was delivered to the RAAF during WWII, in Mar 1942, ex USAAF 41-13522. As a 'War Surplus' aircraft, she was authorised for write-off in Nov 1946, and 'Struck Off Charge' in Feb 1949. The MAM acquired the fuselage, and did not have P-40 wings available. MAM 'temporarily' fitted CA-18 Mustang wings (and main landing gear) which were still fitted in 1988.
