A65-78 (cn 32677/15929) GE Bicentennial Around Australia Air Race. Carried Race officials. Del to RAAF Mar 1945. USAAF serial 44-76345. Made supply runs to New Guinea. First Allied aircraft to fly into Hiroshima after atomic bomb, taking journalists in and bringing out wounded. Later to Aircraft Research & Development Unit. In mid 1980s, trialled this 3-tone grey for RAAF Orions (not adopted). One of last two Dakotas in RAAF service. Last flight from ARDU at Edinburgh, SA, to RAAF Museum, Point Cook on 19.11.1999, TT 16454.1 hrs
