Remark Photographer
G-VLCN / XH558 (cn SET12) Having received a permit to fly just two days earlier, this was the first flying display by a Vulcan for 15 years. What a stroke of genius to fly it in formation with PA474, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster - probably the two most significant RAF bombers in the air together

Great photo! The Lanc crew must have had the throttles firewalled just to try to keep up with that Vulcan.

A visitor from France posted Wed December 5, 2012:
2 famous Avro`s together

A visitor from - posted Tue May 17, 2011:
I just love the foreshortening of that llllong lens. I know they were quite close anyway but this just looks so much more impressive.

A visitor from - posted Tue May 10, 2011:
Not sure if the vulcan is significant but it's probably the 2nd most famous/iconic bomber the RAF's ever had

A visitor from United States posted Sat January 15, 2011:
Thanks to "comments" I just learned something;
"AVRO"= A.V. Roe Now I know! Now I have to find another photo of this thing......
(Well done Mick! )

A visitor from United States posted Wed December 29, 2010:
Picture of the decade, maybe?

Just unbelievable!

I never saw a Lanc "in person", but I did see a Vulcan do an incredible aerobatic routine at Dayton a while back; thing was as "nimble" as a Pitts! Hope that's the same pilot flying this one!

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue April 20, 2010:

Unusual angle, a great photograph

A visitor from - posted Sun November 8, 2009:
I'm quite familiar with the Lancaster but I can't beleive props from Merlins #1 and #2 are at a matching angle and #3 and #4 are too but at a different one's, never seen anything like that, almost a miracle event. Just into the case I'm from Canada.

A visitor from Belgium posted Thu June 4, 2009:
Damn I would like to hear the sound of those!!! Must have been a thrill. Nice pic

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Wed June 3, 2009:
Definitely a five star formation. Perfect exposure. Ideal clarity. And well framed.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue November 25, 2008:
Very, very nice. Two classic British Bombers spanning two generations in one shot.

A visitor from United States posted Mon September 1, 2008:
Fantastic photo. I was wondering how fast the Lancaster had to go to allow the Vulcan to fly properly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Wed July 16, 2008:
What stunning detail, how you managed to get this shot amazes me?! 5*****

A visitor from Belgium posted Wed July 9, 2008:

A visitor from United States posted Sun July 6, 2008:
Wow, Mick!! That is a sight many have probably never seen, and I certainly wish I could have been there for that!! What a truly stunning photo of two of the RAF's most classic aircraft! Five stars, very nicely captured! Jaysen - Wichita, KS

Not exactly an everyday sight! Congratulations on a fantastic photograph of two historic aircraft.

A visitor from United States posted Sun July 6, 2008:
In two words "historical significance". Not only two great Avro bombers together in the air, but over RAF Waddington as well.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sun July 6, 2008:
Just imagine the view that the Tailgunner would get in this fantastic formation!!! Top marks to whomever came up with this idea to formate the two Avro legends so soon after the return to flight of the Vulcan!!!

A visitor from United States posted Sun July 6, 2008:
Fantastic! I especially enjoy how closely synched the props are to one another on each wing of the Lanc.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sun July 6, 2008:
