Those aircraft were extremely loud indeed.I used to live near AMS as a boy, and I remember hearing those Tridents and BAC 1-11s (which, for some unexplainable reason, always seemed even a bit louder) begin their crossing of the North Sea shortly after taking off from AMS. During calm, warm summer evenings, when listening carefully, you could still hear them thundering over the sea for more than ten minutes after passing over your house. It was a particularly heavy, deep thundering noise, very recognisable. Good memories...

Nice photo. Reminds me of my childhood. I lived just 2 miles from the threshold of the runway in the background (24/06) and when this plane took off you knew all about it. Very, very loud.
