Nice piece of history!

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Thu May 30, 2013:
Ah the memories!

I flew from London (Heathrow?) in January 1968 on a British Eagle Britannia, via Istanbul and Bombay, to Singapore at the age of nearly eight.

The engine drone, snow-capped mountains, the heat of Bombay, the smell of the on-board food and humidity of Singapore all come flooding back just looking at this aircraft.

I remember loving it so much. I didn't mind the time it took to get there one little bit!

A visitor from New Zealand posted Tue March 12, 2013:
The co-pilot on G-AOVO's fatal flight to Innsbruck was Michael Metcalfe Davison, DFC and bar. He was a Beaufighter & Mosquito night fighter ace (12 kills) by the time he turned 22. Life and death is terribly unfair.

A visitor from Australia posted Thu February 7, 2013:
Sad to say I was working for British Eagle and on the day G-ARWE landed back at LHR and was distroyed by fire, right in front of our British Eagle office.
I we all stood there not believing what we were watching.

Seeing some of the old faithful British aircraft that were a strong part of the commercial aircraft world before they bowed out; that was nostalgic to see. Thanks.

Wonderful soft winter light and a very interesting line-up. The 707 on the left is a rare -400 series with RR Conway engines. You can just see the noise suppressor of the no. 1 engine.

A totally different world... Compare this to today's airports, with their crowds and their endless lines of A319's and 738's... Fascinating picture!

A visitor from Germany posted Wed January 19, 2011:
I wonder if they had a different price for travelling with a prop or a jet over the Atlantic?
Or was the longer flying time compensated with other features?

A visitor from Venezuela posted Mon January 3, 2011:
What a days!. All those planes now gone forever. No crowds. Fantastic Britannia, specially in BOAC livery.

A visitor from United States posted Thu April 29, 2010:
WOW!!! This photo is great! I wonder what year that was because this photo is awesome! Such old aircraft :D

A visitor from United States posted Thu April 29, 2010:
Unfortunately, on 29 of FEB 1964 the Bristol 175 Britannia 312 (G-AOVO) also crashed into mountains while on decent to Innsbruck sadly killing all 83 people on board.

I love the shot of the bristol britannia, one of the slickest airliners ever made.

A visitor from United States posted Wed April 28, 2010:
Wow! Look at this lineup: A 707...a Britannia...
a Caravelle....and a Comet! You don't get more
vintage than this! Well done!!! 5 stars!
