A brilliant picture. From an era when aviation was so much more interesting than today... The three planes in the picture (there's a 707 on the left, if I see it right) are relatively small by today's standards, certainly for long-haul planes, but to me they are much more impressive than modern planes, however big and powerful they may be. The early jets were all about speed, glamour, raw power, noise, smoke and JetA smell.
This is a stunning photo which brings back many memories. I loved the Super VC10 and travelled LHR to SYD and return several times many years ago. Funnily though, I have just realised an anomaly. It's probably deliberate to give the illusion of "forward motion" and we have to imagine a flagpole at the right of the flag, but the British flag is upside down! I imagine it's the correct way up on the port side.
What a Beauty. To all those who worked with VC10 birds - thanks.
Great picture showing lots of details. Also, note that both starboard Conways have covers on them to avoid FOD during service to the rear galley. I'm sure this was one of the many odd birds of the '60's and '70's that ground crews had issues with due to their "interesting" design.
I love the detail of this photo, there is so much going on with the ground crew and taxing aircraft. I have been looking at this photo for several minutes now and I keep seeing something new.
2 of my favs from the Golden Age of jet travel in one frame. I never had the pleasure of riding in a VC10, though.
That is a sexy photo! Love all that classic metal
A beautiful aircraft, I am predjudiced, my late father helped build them, in particular the boundary layer fences on the wings.
Oh my! Want to climb up the stairs of this beauty and settle in. Brimming with atmosphere, thank you for this!
This is a moment in history with two aircraft that unfortunately never met the success that their futuristic designs and abilities merited. Well caught and well done to the busy ground crews also.
