N8244L (cn NC-29) Beechcraft 2000A Starship I on final for runway 19L at ICT. These rare birds are always a very pleasant sight to be seen, thanks to the pilot for bringing it to Wichita and keeping it nice and low! First photo of this particular aircraft in A.net.

What is this? And is it coming or going?

A visitor from - posted Thu August 13, 2015:
FAA requirements that added unnecessary weight and Beechcraft/Ratheon policies plus their bad market timing are what really killed the Starship's success. Too bad so few of these awesome machines still fly.

Love me some B-2000A's. It's disappointing that this style of aircraft hasn't proliferated.

It's incredible how they can level its CG with its force centre. Thanks for this nice shot!

Excellent photo. Such a beautiful bird. Such a beautiful sound. Such a shame.

What the....? The landing gear takes up the entire wing. Where's the fuel tanks?

Wow! Nice photo!
This aircraft reminds me of the Piaggio P-180 Avanti!

Beech engineering and quality can be seen from the distance

A visitor from United States posted Mon July 18, 2011:
It just a good example of what we used to be able to build.

A visitor from United States posted Sat February 19, 2011:
The FAA doomed this aircraft because they did not/could not understand that a canard aircraft does not stall the way a normal aircraft does and therefore the speeds that are used to predicate performance will be completely skewed. The FAA has a hard time understanding a lot of things.

A visitor from United States posted Mon December 27, 2010:
What sort of machine is this? I am stunned.

A visitor from United States posted Mon December 27, 2010:
Wonderful composition, angle and lighting on this one!

In addition to the design's complexity and cost, the Starship also came in overweight, and ended up slower than advertised. All conspired to doom the plane in the marketplace.

A visitor from - posted Mon December 27, 2010:
Wich wil be the best this Starship or a Pioaggio Aero 180..?

A visitor from United States posted Mon December 27, 2010:
Aptly named! Too bad most got scrapped...was it a case of "bad-timing" sales-wise, or was it too expensive for a prop-plane?

A visitor from Brazil posted Mon December 27, 2010:
Santos Dumont was right when he put the horizontal stabilizer in front of his 14 BIS back in 1903. Kind of an early canard.

A visitor from - posted Fri November 19, 2010:
It is my understanding that Burt Rutan's high tech carbon fiber engineering made them too expensive and they didn't sell. For the same price you could buy a jet. Still a brilliant design of great beauty. A work of art. From the ground they look like a UFO.

A visitor from United States posted Thu November 11, 2010:
A very nice photo! 5*****'s for this one!

I read a lot about this plane when Burt Rutan designed it, and Beech built it, but for some reason, it just never did "catch on"; and I never heard anything bout the canards being variable-geometry.

Thanks Jaysen for uploading it.

A visitor from Canada posted Fri September 24, 2010:
Its to bad it never got into the industry that is a nice plane. I think canards would have been a nice asset.

A visitor from - posted Wed June 2, 2010:
The variable geometry of the canards can be seen in this picture.

Perfectly framed and focused. Nice unusual angle. Thanks for sharing it.
