Remark Photographer
EW-85706 (cn 91A881) This TU154M lost a tire during take off. You clearly can see where the tire is missing (right main landing gear - middle wheel). Rwy 18 was closed for several minutes after this incident. The pilots didn't return to FRA. Does anybody have further information about this incident? Hopefully they landed safely again. [1200pixels]

The tire is lost - lucky shot.
I think it is wisely decided to continue to destination when everthing else but the tire is fine. A/C will be much lighter there without having to dump tons and tons of fuel.

Money shot. I spent hundreds of hours at this spot at FRA and never ever something happened. Perfect timing, at the right place with the right weather.

Now THAT is some new way of saving weight...

I have no idea what happened when she landed, but chances are there were no serious reactions from just one tire being lost. She has quite a few more there on the main gear and she was lighter than when she took off, of course. :)

Excellent clarity, lighting, and perspective on the graceful lines of that beautiful aircraft. :)

Some courage to continue to the destination.

Is it common to lose a tire during t/o?
