N8859E / 410 (cn 20621/904) The sign message is almost appropriate for this scenario. Ex-Eastern and Pan Am. This photo was taken several hours after Hurricane Andrew devastated the southern part of Dade County. High winds at MIA blew this bird into the canal and it never flew again. It was scrapped in 1996 at MIA.

This is what hurricanes do to planes, when it gets the opportunity. Look up some of the historical photos of Hurricane David when it hit Hispaniola - prominent is a picture of a upside-down DC-3 deposited ON TOP of a hangar, by that storm.

Thanks again to Don for all the memories shared!

Ouch. 727s must be LIGHT!

LOL, now we should really pay attention to signs...:)

Brush up on your history. Braniff was reincarnated twice after the original went BK in 1982. The third incarnation brought back the Braniff International "Flying Colors" for a brief period before going out of business for good. So the date on this photo is indeed acurate, not from the "late '70's". Great shot, Don!

Braniff went Bk in about 1982. What would a plane decked out in full Braniff colors have been doing at Miami in August of 1992? Translation: I think the photo dates from no later that the early '80's

Braniff put an end to the plain plane and sadly this was the end of this aircraft’s career.

Sad ending to a classinc plane with a classic livery, the Braniff "Flying Colors"

Gr8 photo, love the sign

It looks shiny and brand new! Too bad...
Funny how all the colors match, green and red.

Nice photo UD. Would really love to see you upload more of your old MIA gems you have stashed away in that closet of yours. :)

Wow! Glad to hear the plane was unoccupied. It also makes it understandable that Continental moved its Houston fleet to El Paso during the hurricanes last year. Thanks for uploading!

A visitor from United States posted Sun September 3, 2006:
I can't believe the winds were strong enough to move a 727!

A visitor from United States posted Sun September 3, 2006:
Sad story about the plane, but good thing nobody was hurt. What makes it funny is the "Aircraft Crosssing" sign.

A visitor from United States posted Sun September 3, 2006:
The sign makes the photo

Funny! Thanks for sharing. Sad the plane was scraped though.
