In the 1940s Britain lagged far behind in the race for supersonic aviation. Fairey were commissioned to build this delta-winged prototype powered by a Rolls Royce Avon 28 with reheat. She had a top speed of 1,122mph and a range of 830 miles. The cockpit hinged down to allow increased visibility for pilots during take-off and landing. Nicknamed "mini-Concorde", this hugely significant aircraft was the direct predecessor of the Concorde, appropriately parked in the background (Canon 50D + Sigma 10-20)
