BA's new baby bus backtracks on the way to the apron after a session of practice steep approaches over the city to runway 09. Premium 32-seat all-business class service from LCY to JFK will commence on 29th September as flight number BA001, formerly used by Concorde

LCY to JFK? Surely not direct? Nice to see something a bit different serving LCY.

I like the A318, It's like a regional aircraft that is not fact, I also like how the tail looks larger in relation to this short body. I would liek to see more airlines getting this type. Interesting to see how BA has decided to operate this aircraft, BA001 may be a little to much. Good looking A318.

The photo's great, but I hate the fact that they have given it BA001!!

The westbound flight will have to refuel at Shannon, but meanwhile the passengers will clear US immigration and customs. The eastbound flight will be non-stop from JFK to LCY

:P That's because the tail is larger than a standard A319/20/21 - due to stability conditions relating to yaw etc etc. they needed to increase the area of the tail.

The A318 could operate LCY-JFK but the runway is not long enough to give a fully fueled A318 a full rolling takeoff. That's why the stop at Shannon for refueling and they clear US customs so no need for customs at JFK.

I agree, giving flight no. 001 to any flight other than the Concorde (and thats not gonna happen no more, or at least not within, say, the next few years) shld have been made 'not done', just like many football teams dont give out shirtnumbers of former important or otherwisely very respected players. However, I do like this bird nonetheless; the whole 'thing' emits a feel of exclusiveness, even if it were only for the fact BA has only got one of 'em.
