Photographs of airliners undergoing maintenance are invariably intriguing. This view is important, as it records this particular 747 in a hybrid colour scheme almost seven years after repainting the fleet into BA livery began: colours are standard but with the original BOAC dark blue cheat-line still in place. Also noteworthy is that the upper deck has not yet been modified to replace its three windows with a full row. Thank you for posting it...

Nigeria Airways 707-300 is also in the picture. That scheme would look sound on todays jets as well.

I also thought it was a retro paint on a BA 744. Disappointing, but still a nice picture...

Love the photo and i agree they should have a retro livery! to be honest i think it looks alot better than new livery

A visitor from - posted Wed November 17, 2010:
Agreed. I had exactly the same reaction to the thumbnail. A 744 would look superb dressed up like this. A great photo, nonetheless. Of all the shots on this site from bygone days, I think the ones from LHR move me the most.

Beautiful photo. How I wish I could have taken photos of planes like this. ***** Wayne C.

I got very excited when I saw the thumbnail as I thought BA had sneaked a super special retro livery out on a 747, once the initial disappointment has gone that this is a 100 and not a 400, I have to say a fantastic image and well done.
