The Yak-23 (NATO code 'Flora') was an important development for Yakolev in the single-seat jet-fighter concept. Evolved from the somewhat crude Yak-15 and Yak-17 designs, the Yak-23 was first jet Yakolev with retractable tricycle landing-gear yet still employed untapered wings and rear-stabilisers. A total of 313 airframes were built in the mid-1950s, and the Yak-23 was the first jet-powered aircraft to serve with the Bulgarian Air Force. Now preserved at the superb Krumovo museum.
