Not something you see everyday, a MD-82 doing a tail stand after the weather has drifted a lot of snow ontp the tail section. Note the towing-line and how all the men are pulling the nose back down using their hands only. The attempt was successful and the nosegear was carefully returned to the ground.

Wow! Do a plane really lift because of some snow on the tail? I didn't know that! 5 stars!

Goes to show just how finely balanced that plane is. a little snow is all it takes to tip it over apparently

Beautiful days in Alitalia, at Rome Fiumicino, as I-DAVC are gone... Look at you now... :-(
Nice shot, however.

No way snow could have produced enough weight to put this bird on it's tail. Definitely something else at work here. Not snow on the tail.

When lightly loaded or not loaded at all, the MD-80 becomes tail-heavy. Thus it needs just some snow to sit on its tail.

Interesting, a plane with a VR of 0 knots :)

How did they manage to ease the nosewheel down and not slam it onto the tarmac?
