Great shot of this grand old "Connie"; (however, a bit of "explanation" concerning the "contraption" on top would have been very helpful!)

I believe this contraption was for engine testing for the Nord 262 project.

I guess that the winglike structure on top reduces the contraption's impact on the plane's weight distribution in flight, to improve flight characteristics.
