Used to demonstrate Snecma/GE CFM56-2C5 engines - used (initially) to re-engine DC-8's, converting them to series -71, -72, & -73. Manuafactured on May 29, 1969. Delivered on August 19, 1969 to United Airlines. Built as DC-8-62H, cvt'd to DC-8-72 in December 1982. Other serials - N8972U with United Airlines wearing FN 2272, HZ-HM11 & HZ-HS11 with Saudi Arabian Royal Flight, and also 6Y-JII with Air Jamaica. Stored at DAL (Dallas-Love Field) in October 1995. Broken-up at DAL in December 2003.
