I've actually managed to scrounge up the Flight Safety report on this. The student inadvertently placed a piece of his ALSE equipment on the CFS firing circuit, and upon closing the canopy, set the system off.
This is a common'ish problem, whilst with No.4FTS at Valley and later Brawdy it was practice for handlers to crouch behind the right wing whilst we closed the canopy...
The seat did not fire. It is still in the plane.
Did the ejector seat go off accidently. One did on a Slovenian Air Force Pilatus PC9 at 10,000 feet recently!
It appears that this canopy operated as advertised!
