VP-CFT (cn 5067) The Challenger was designed in 1976 by Bill Lear, founder of the Lear Jet Corporation, and originally known as the Lear Star 600. It was the first business jet with a walk-round cabin. Lear sold the design rights to Canadair and the type first flew, at Montreal, in 1978 and was certificated in 1980. It subsequently became the basis for the CRJ series of regional jets and the intercontinental Global Express. This Challenger is registered in the Cayman Islands but based here at Manchester.
