"While being moved from its parking stand, the nosegear collapsed allowing the foreward fuselage to strike the ground. Significant damage occured. According to unconfirmed sources, gorund workers omitted to install the gear-lock pins before the aircraft was moved."
Always a shame to see a queen of the skies laying on here belly..
This happened to quite a few Jumbos. Is there a reason Boeing didn't install the "don't retrack gear on the ground" safeguard on their plane?
Nice shot, B747 has officially surrendered to the A380! :)
Nose down loading? Look again, I'ld say. Good picture though. Indeed a sorry loss of money, but I guess in L'burg they don't realy mins ;-)
Brand new 747 version. It's produced to be comparable with AN124 with nose-down loading ability. Good shot
I remember seeing this in an episode of Simpsons :-)
Showing the actual fuel coming out the plane. Very odd to see that and scary
Really sad to see my favourite Airline lying on the ground because someone forgot to pull on the gearpinns. That will cost a lot of money
A Chinese mechanic apparently confused the gear door lever, which is located in the gear bay, with the gear lever in the cockpit...
Reminds me on the story of the young pilot who bet "it's impossible to retract the gear when aircraft is on ground" - and so he pulled the gear lever...
Woa! that hurts! | |
Plain and simple,its great!
WOW! That.....HURTS!!!!
Sad picture. Weight on Wheel sensor should prevent a gear up on the ground. I'd love to know the reason
Its looks awsome- as if the 747 is squatting down!
It didn't have to be a big bang - normally a nose landing gear carries about 10% of total weight, and it also depends on how the cargo was distributed inside the fuselage at the time of the bang.
While you guys load me up, please allow me to sit down & take a breather!
I just can't imagine when the moment it fell down. Luckily it's a carge flight. But if it's full of passengers waiting for getting off, that must be some injuries.
Oh My gosh.... thats a few thousand dollars
Thats what happens when you attempt a gear swing without the jacks. DOH!!
Great picture... But...WHY?!?!?!?!
The main landing gear is visible in the right side of the photograph. My quess is that the NLG had a hydraulic failure causing the nose to come to rest on the ground in a puddle of hydraulic fluid.
Not the way I like to see my 47's!
What a pitty to see her lying. She looks kind of sad. I love the 747!!
Right place at the right time.
The engine did touch the ground. Just a little bit but it toucherd it. I hate to see 747s like this. T.B.
Nice photo good job | |
Is this plane really this big?? i have never seen it in real life!
Great shot! I guess somebody forgot to lock the gear pins...
Oops. Interesting photo though, surprised there's not more damage to the a/c
Damn!!! Did the pilots forget they were on the ground and tried to retract the gear?
Poor LX-TCV, bad to see him like this.
That must have been quite a bang. BTW, it`s not fuel on the ground, that is hydraulic fluid. You`ll not find fuel in the NLG area!!!
Looks painful. Glad no one was underneath it! A great shot of what a huge bird the 744 is. Looks really pretty from this angle too, but would likely look much better if she wasn't laying on the ground ;)
Yeah that´s true, really awfull to see our home-compagnie plane like this. BTW, nice picture :) Manu from Luxembourg
That's awful to see TCV lying on the ground.
