"While being moved from its parking stand, the nosegear collapsed allowing the foreward fuselage to strike the ground. Significant damage occured. According to unconfirmed sources, gorund workers omitted to install the gear-lock pins before the aircraft was moved."

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat June 9, 2012:
Always a shame to see a queen of the skies laying on here belly..

A visitor from - posted Fri March 2, 2012:
This happened to quite a few Jumbos. Is there a reason Boeing didn't install the "don't retrack gear on the ground" safeguard on their plane?

A visitor from United States posted Sat August 1, 2009:
Nice shot, B747 has officially surrendered to the A380! :)

A visitor from Netherlands posted Sun August 10, 2008:
Nose down loading? Look again, I'ld say. Good picture though. Indeed a sorry loss of money, but I guess in L'burg they don't realy mins ;-)

A visitor from Indonesia posted Wed May 3, 2006:
Brand new 747 version. It's produced to be comparable with AN124 with nose-down loading ability. Good shot

A visitor from Canada posted Sun April 16, 2006:
I remember seeing this in an episode of Simpsons :-)

A visitor from South Africa posted Thu February 23, 2006:
Showing the actual fuel coming out the plane. Very odd to see that and scary

A visitor from Luxembourg posted Fri February 10, 2006:
Really sad to see my favourite Airline lying on the ground because someone forgot to pull on the gearpinns. That will cost a lot of money

A visitor from Germany posted Tue January 31, 2006:
A Chinese mechanic apparently confused the gear door lever, which is located in the gear bay, with the gear lever in the cockpit...

A visitor from Germany posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Reminds me on the story of the young pilot who bet "it's impossible to retract the gear when aircraft is on ground" - and so he pulled the gear lever...

A visitor from Colombia posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Woa! that hurts!

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Plain and simple,its great!

A visitor from Spain posted Fri January 27, 2006:
WOW!

That.....HURTS!!!!

A visitor from Netherlands posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Sad picture. Weight on Wheel sensor should prevent a gear up on the ground. I'd love to know the reason

A visitor from India posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Its looks awsome- as if the 747 is squatting down!

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 27, 2006:
It didn't have to be a big bang - normally a nose landing gear carries about 10% of total weight, and it also depends on how the cargo was distributed inside the fuselage at the time of the bang.

A visitor from Singapore posted Fri January 27, 2006:
While you guys load me up, please allow me to sit down & take a breather!

A visitor from Hong Kong posted Fri January 27, 2006:
I just can't imagine when the moment it fell down. Luckily it's a carge flight. But if it's full of passengers waiting for getting off, that must be some injuries.

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Oh My gosh.... thats a few thousand dollars

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Thats what happens when you attempt a gear swing without the jacks. DOH!!

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Great picture... But...WHY?!?!?!?!

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 27, 2006:
The main landing gear is visible in the right side of the photograph. My quess is that the NLG had a hydraulic failure causing the nose to come to rest on the ground in a puddle of hydraulic fluid.

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Not the way I like to see my 47's!

A visitor from Netherlands posted Fri January 27, 2006:
What a pitty to see her lying. She looks kind of sad. I love the 747!!

A visitor from United States posted Fri January 27, 2006:
Right place at the right time.

A visitor from Mexico posted Fri January 27, 2006:
The engine did touch the ground. Just a little bit but it toucherd it. I hate to see 747s like this. T.B.

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 26, 2006:
Nice photo good job

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 26, 2006:
Is this plane really this big?? i have never seen it in real life!

A visitor from Germany posted Thu January 26, 2006:
Great shot! I guess somebody forgot to lock the gear pins...

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 26, 2006:
Oops. Interesting photo though, surprised there's not more damage to the a/c

A visitor from - posted Thu January 26, 2006:
Damn!!! Did the pilots forget they were on the ground and tried to retract the gear?

A visitor from Luxembourg posted Thu January 26, 2006:
Poor LX-TCV, bad to see him like this.

A visitor from France posted Thu January 26, 2006:
That must have been quite a bang. BTW, it`s not fuel on the ground, that is hydraulic fluid. You`ll not find fuel in the NLG area!!!

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 26, 2006:
Looks painful. Glad no one was underneath it!
A great shot of what a huge bird the 744 is. Looks really pretty from this angle too, but would likely look much better if she wasn't laying on the ground ;)

A visitor from Belgium posted Thu January 26, 2006:
Yeah that´s true, really awfull to see our home-compagnie plane like this. BTW, nice picture :)
